It was not long before the whole palace got to know of what just happened, and soon enough, the news got to the villagers outside the palace, and each of them showed their disapproval to the abomination Ifeoma committed. "To-fia-kwa" They all were saying as they formed small groups to discuss the incident. Some rolled their left hand over their head as they snapped their fingers. Some simply raised their shoulder to touch their cheek as a way of expressing their shock for the crime Ifeoma committed. "You mean she slapped a Chief?" A man asked in one of the small groups. "Yes o. A girl for that matter." Tochukwu, the village's reknowned gossip said. "You need to see how she slapped him." He added, almost immediately, as he made a move to slap a little child opposite him as a way of showing them how Ifeoma slapped the Chief. They were all suprised, thinking Tochukwu would slap the small child. But he looked at the child, and said with a big smile. "I was only joking with you." But, they knew he was not joking. He could simply slap or beat anybody when he's re-telling any story that had to do with beating. Tochukwu had once poured a man hot pap at Mama Do Good's shop. He was telling the man about how a woman poured her husband's concubine hot water. He had taken the narration event by event, and when he got to the point where the wife poured the hot water, he simply poured the bowl of pap in his hand. It was after it all he apologized to the man. Since then, whenever he starts his narration, people would keep a distance from him.
Days rolled by very quickly, and the King did not waste time at all before sending an emissary to Aku village for resolution. But, Aku people were more particular about revenge. They simply refused the peace talk, and instead, gave Ikedike village three market days to dish out a good punishment to the culprit, else, "we would take it as an insult, and wage war on Ikedike village." Aku sent words back through the emissary. Every village in the entire kingdom feared Aku village because they don't threaten for nothing. They always keep to their words, and this, the King knew so well. The elders met, and their decision was not far from what the entire village expected. "Ifeoma is like a child to me" The king started. "But, if she could slap a Chief, it's a matter of time before she would beat me up in the palace." The King concluded. The Council of Elders finally agreed to strip Ifeoma of her position in the palace. "After all, she is yet to conceive" One of the Chiefs suggested during their deliberation. Aku village was so pleased with the decision Ikedike village took, and they reassured them of their lasting commitment and unity. And that was it. Ifeoma went back to her father's house just few months after her wedding, and she inturn became an object of ridicule in the entire village. Parents would use her as an example for rude and disrespectful children, and if you still go to Ikedike village today, you will see Ifeoma, who is now a very old woman. She still lives in her parent's house, even after their death, because no man ever came to ask for her hand in marriage since then.
>>>>>>>>EPILOGUE<<<<<<<<
One funny thing about life is that, there are times we pray and wish our enemies could be destroyed. We so want to get our enemies off our way to success that we do different things to get them off. We pray, we fast, we bind and we even cast. But, it is highly ironical that we also are our own enemies most of the time. We have some disgusting habits and characters that keep us away from getting what we want in life, and even when our good virtues get us the good things of life, like an anchor, these disgusting habits pull us back just before we go too far. It is my earnest desire and appeal that each and every one of us should look deep within us, and take care of these disgusting habits before they pull us back to the starting point, just like Ifeoma.
