ENEMY OF MYSELF (Episode 3)

In no time, the Prince' heart started playing a serious game on him. He got so much interested in Ifeoma that he could barely sleep that night. Over and over again, his mind played back the incident at the stream side, and he could not help but smile. "She is such a very bold girl." The Prince said to himself. "and a beautiful girl at that." He added. He had asked his most loyal bodyguard on how he could see the girl. "She is the daughter of Chief Umeh." His bodyguard had informed him. Eze could not help but think about the following morning. He would go to her house, and tell her of his love for her. As he planned, he also edited his plans to remove the ones he felt would not fully express his true feeling for her. That night, the morning refused to come, and the crickets seemed to take too much time before going back into their hiding place. The stars stayed a little longer as the moon spent more than enough time in the sky. But after it all, the cocks began to announce the arrival of the new day, and that made the stars and moon departed from the sky, changing guard with the morning sun and its bright rays. That morning, Eze had a very unusual smile on his face. His face was brighter than normal, and even the King was suprised  to find his son awake at the early hours of the morning. Eze was not in the habit of waking up early as he takes his time when sleeping. The only time Eze woke up early in his life was on the day of his Ozidi. Ozidi was a type of custom in Ikedike village where the heir goes hunting with his father as a teenager and must single-handedly kill an animal before returning, no matter how small the animal is. That was a way of knowing if the heir is ready for the throne or not. Although, since the inception of Ikedike village, no heir had every returned without killing an animal. Nobody knew if the kings killed the animal and then claimed their heirs did, but what the entire village knew was, no heir had returned empty handed. That day, Eze eventually killed an antelope.

Left to Eze, he would have stormed Ifeoma's house first thing that morning. But, Uche, his most loyal bodyguard suggested they wait till sun rise. "It's not a good idea to visit a girl early in the morning." Uche advised. The visit to Chief Umeh's house was very significant to Eze, it was a visit he would never forget. He was welcomed by Chief Umeh himself as he told his servants to drop the gifts he brought for them. "Drop the gifts" He commanded. As if Chief Umeh knew what Eze had in mind, he invited Ifeoma to greet the Prince, and after some minutes, he called her out again to serve the Prince. As feoma knelt down to hand over the palm wine to the Prince, she could not help but smile shyly. The look on her face made it clear that she could not personally resist the handsome Prince. "I would like to be on my way now. I just came to say 'Hello'". The Prince said, after staying for a while. Again, Chief Umeh called out Ifeoma, "See our guest off." He said. It was clear that Chief Umeh was trying to play along. He knew that the Prince must have found a flower in his compound which he wants to pluck, and he as a person was ready to do all he could to help the Prince pluck the flower. And no doubt, five full moons later, the flower was eventually plucked, after Ifeoma gave in to Eze's proposal. Their wedding ceremony was the talk of the village, as every girl in the village wished they could trade places with Ifeoma, but, if wishes were horses, beggars would certainly ride.

You know, one funny thing about life is that sometimes, bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people, but, just that the good things that happen to bad people hardly last. Will Ifeoma be able to handle the challenges of her new home with her character? Well, only time will tell. Pardon me for not sending the episodes for the past two days. Got so busy at work. So, just hold on as I bring you the next episode later today.
