Detective Maye had simply called the police officers he told to wait downstairs for him, and in no time, Mr. Hassan was led into the Hilux car they brought. "I'm not the one that killed Akin." "I didn't poison him" Mr. Hassan kept shouting as they led him out of his office.
Detective Maye did not waste time to visit Raimi at home. She has been at home since the incident happened, crying her eyes out, and Oluchi had been a good friend who stood by her all the while. "Madam, please accept my condolence on the death of your husband." Detective Maye started. "Please, in our bid to find the murderer, I would need to ask you some questions" He added. "Detective, do you think this is the best time to question a widow?" Oluchi asked the detective almost immediately. Detective Maye could not reply, and silence filled the room for few seconds. "Oluchi, it's OK. Let him ask his questions." Raimi said wiping her eyes. "Madam, I am very sorry for having to stress you emotionally." Detective Maye apologized again. "What really happened?" He asked. Raimi narrated all that had happened the previous night. "He came back and started beating me." Raimi continued. She told the detective of how he later apologized that night before he slept off. "So, what happened the following morning?" The detective asked. "I woke early, and I went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, which I served in his cooler before leaving." Raimi narrated. Detective Maye's interest went to the breakfast Raimi said she prepared. "What did you cook for breakfast?" Detective Maye asked. "I boiled rice for him." She replied. "Are these questions not getting too much?" Oluchi interrupted. But nobody answered her, and that threw the room into yet another silence. "Was that what you also ate for breakfast?" Detective Maye questioned after some seconds of silence. With that question, Raimi could see the point Detective Maye was getting at. "No." She replied, after hesitating for a while. Detective Maye pulled out his small jotter and wrote something on it before lifting up his head from his book to ask, "but, why did you cook a different meal for him?" Raimi was shocked at the question. She didn't know what to say. The whole thing had happened so fast that she could no longer think straight. She tried to open her mouth to explain, but words seem to betray her. She feared that the detective had caught her red-handed. "Should I just confess at this point?" She asked herself. "Madam, I said, why did you prepare a different meal for your husband." Detective Maye asked again in a more threatening manner. Silence filled the room yet again, except for the sound made as Detective Maye pulled out his jotter to write something again. Raimi was ready to confess. She thought the best thing was for her to simply confess at that point. But, before she could open her mouth to say anything, the detective threw yet another big question. "Did you kill him because of Azuka?". Detective Maye's faced glowed with certainty. He had discovered about Azuka during his investigation. Raimi's heart cut into piece at the mention of the name "Azuka". "How did he know? Who told him about Azuka?" Series of questions filled Raimi's mind as she looked into Oluchi's face. It was only Oluchi that knew about Azuka. Detective Maye stood up, and walked towards Raimi, "you had better start talking." He said with a big smile.
