HIGHWAY TO HELL (Episode 5)

Mr. Hassan's office was next to Akin's office, and he was the first person to notice Akin when he started coughing. It was as if he was waiting for him to act funny, and he came into Akin's office immediately he started coughing. In no time, he raised an alarm which made other workers troop into Akin's office. As he coughed, they held him and tried to rush him to the hospital. Yet again, it was as if Mr. Hassan had it all planned when he volunteered that his car be used to rush Akin to the hospital. His car was already parked close to the main gate, and it made it a lot easier for them to rush Akin to the hospital. Akin's secretary and two other people who joined Mr. Hassan to rush Akin to the hospital were suprised when Akin eventually stopped jerking in the car. He stopped breathing, and his eyes were fully opened without blinking. Fear gripped them, as the female secretary started crying. Her tears increased when they were eventually told that Akin was dead before they got to the hospital. Mr. Hassan was short of words, and he could not help but cry silently.

Raimi was sitting on her table in the office discussing with Oluchi when her phone rang. They both worked in the same department of the company, and that was where they met as friends. Oluchi was trying to get words out of her mouth concerning what had happened to her face. Raimi had denied it was nothing. "I fell down in the bathroom." Raimi said, not sounding convincing at all. Oluchi knew Raimi was lying. "How then did that deployed all your face?" Oluchi asked with all amazement. Raimi tried to find words to explain and cover up for her lies, but she was not good at it. "Did he beat you?" Oluchi asked, interrupting Raimi's flimsy excuses. "Hmmmmm... not exactly. We...ehm... ehm... ehm... only had a misunderstanding." Raimi struggled to say. It was in the middle of their conversation that Raimi's phone rang. "Yes. Who am I speaking with?" Raimi asked the caller. She was told that her husband was rushed to the hospital. She was given the location of the hospital, and in no time, Raimi and Oluchi rushed out of the office. On getting to the hospital, an elderly person was requested for by the doctor. "I would like to speak to any elderly man in your family." The doctor demanded. Raimi insisted that she be told exactly what happened, but the doctor refused. "That's the procedure" He argued. Raimi knew something was wrong, and the doctor was only keeping it from her. "Doctor, if there is anything, tell me, I can handle it." She said fidgeting. With that, it was obvious that she could not handle the least sad news about her husband, let alone, his death. Oluchi helped to call Chief, Akin's uncle, who drove down in a matter of minutes. When he got to the hospital, he was shone the way to the doctor's office, and Oluchi and Raimi tried to follow him. "Madam, please, I'll like to discuss with him alone." The doctor said, shutting the door. The doctor narrated how Akin was rushed to their hospital, and that he died even before getting to their hospital. Chief's heart was so broken. It hurt him so much that such a young and promising child like Akin had died just like that. But, what hurt him most was what the doctor later said. "Sir, I'm afraid to tell you he died of food poison." Chief was shocked to his bones and marrows. "What?" He asked. "How? " He asked the doctor again as if he would know. But, the doctor kept quiet which made it clear he had no answer to the question. When Chief left the doctor's office, he broke the news to Raimi, who had been waiting by the door all the while. He didn't tell her about the poisoning. "They said Akin is dead." And that was all Raimi needed to hear to turn the hospital upside down. She shouted and cried at the top of her voice, and it took the help of Oluchi and Chief to get her home. Raimi cried so much within that short period that her eyes became so red. And she even cried more when she was eventually told that her husband died of food poison. She cursed and cursed whosoever  was responsible for her husband's death. Her curses were so heavy that people who were around to console her feared they may even suffer the same fate as the culprit. They told her to stop cursing, but instead, she cried and rolled on the floor the more, cursing at every point in time.

Well, join me again tomorrow as we move together to find the killer of our aniMAN and Wife-beater. The story remains HIGHWAY TO HELL.
