TEARS FROM A PILLOW (Episode 3)

Soon enough, days rolled into weeks, as weeks turned into months. Months have the usual nature of turning into years, and to Lizzy's amazement, it was already 4 years since Tade journeyed to America. The first few months of Tade's stay in America was quite good for Lizzy, as Tade called her often enough to make her still believe that he was true to his words. But, sooner or later, Tade's calls turned to text messages. He wouldn't call for about 2 or 3 days, and would make it up with just a text message. Even when Lizzy called, he wouldn't pick her calls, and this gave Lizzy a great concern. To Lizzy's greatest surprise, Tade did not call for a whole month, and she did not call him too. "Lizzy, I'm kinda very busy here. Need to sort sometins out for a while. Will get in touch. Takie." So read his last text to her, and for that, she decided to let him be, but that decision was enough for her to get her mind off the whole Tade's "coming from America" love. Everybody around her advised her to move on with her life and forget Tade. It was a tough decision for her to make, but she sure did make the decision.

Four years had passed, and Lizzy seems to have forgotten Tade. She had decided to move on with her life. Infact, she wants to move on with her life, but things were not just working out for her. Since Tade left, no guy had ever asked Lizzy out. She didn't really observe that when she was in her final year in school. To her, she thought it was because most people knew she was going out with Tade. Even during her service year, she chose not to believe that truth, because she happened to be one of the most beautiful girls in camp, but no guy came her way. Not even any of the "anything-under-skirt" guys. Two years had passed since she finished her youth service, and had been able to get a good job at a communication company in Lagos, still not a single guy had told her "I love you", not to mention asking her out. Lizzy was one of the few girls in the company whose beauty radiates at the sun rays, but still, no guy came her way. After work one day, she had visited the mall to get some things when she ran into Tade's uncle who drove them to the airport when Tade was travelling. She was so happy to see him, hoping he would give her Tade's new phone number. "Why didn't you come to the funeral". Tade's uncle asked her after they exchanged pleasantries. "Funeral?" Lizzy asked with a puzzle look on her face. "Tade died last month in America. He got hit by a stray bullet." Tade's uncle said. "His corpse was brought back home 2 weeks ago, and he was silently buried last week Friday." He finally said. Lizzy was still in shock when Tade's uncle brought out his complimentary card, and handed it over to Lizzy. "I have to go now. My wife and kids are waiting for me outside." He said as he rushed out of the mall.
