TEARS FROM A PILLOW (Episode 2)

Lizzy could not help shedding watery tears on their way back from the airport with Tade's uncle. He had tried fruitlessly to console her, and had finally given up the attempt of consoling her again. "I wonder why she is crying this much." He said to himself as he sharply navigates a turn. The journey back seems longer than Lizzy's entire life's journey. The heavy traffic did not in any way help the issue as well. "Where will you pass the night?" Tade's uncle asked Lizzy. At that point, it dawned on her that she and Tade had thought and talked about she seeing him off to the airport in Lagos without for once thinking and concluding on how she would get back to Warri or where she would pass the night that very day. She gave him a blank and vague look which was enough for him to understand that the two lovers had missed out that crucial part in their plans. "My wife and kids would be happy to have you around." He said with a big smile on his face.

Lizzy looked outside the window, and her eyes caught two lovers holding hands across the road. In a quick flash, her mind went to what had happened between them about a month ago. They had both taken an oath. Tade had always wanted them to take an oath to assure her that his love for her was real and undying. Lizzy on the otherhand had always kicked against it, "It is a covenant, and it has a lot of spiritual implications." Lizzy told Tade the last time he brought it up again. She had also once told him, "it is dangerous, and it has some medical implications". As the one Tade suggested involves the sucking of each other's blood. But, when Tade finally got the visa, Lizzy herself brought up the issue of taking an oath, and not only did she bring it up. She was the one who bought the needle used. Lizzy was the first to pierce Tade's right thumb before Tade did same for her. They both crossed their right hands into each other. "TOGETHER FOREVER." They both said before licking the blood on each other's thumb.

Hmmmmmm……there we go. Tade and Lizzy had entered into a covenant. A covenant that was taken because they were both love-drunk. Now, Tade is enroute to America for greener pastures without a specific time of returning. But, wait a minute !!! What if Tade dies in a plane crash, or what if Lizzy dies in a car accident???
