A PHONE CALL (Episode 3)

"My twins?" Dami asked. At first, the words didn't really make sense to her, but when the words dawned on her, she dropped the phone and raced out of her room. "Taye... Kenny !!!" She called, as she raced to their rooms. It was a well furnished 4 bedroom apartment. The twins had a room to themselves each, while Dami and her husband both shared a room, and the other room was used as visitor's room. She checked Taye's room before checking Kenny's room. She checked the kitchen and the visitor's room as well. But, not a single trace of them. She ran outside to see if they were sitting outside, somewhere at the corridor, but there was no traces of them. The house suddenly became empty and lifeless. She decided to call their phones,  and that was when she realized she dropped her phone in her room. Like a madman, she rushed back to her room to pick her phone. On her way back to her room, she could not help but thank God that her husband kicked against her initial decision of giving the twins a cellphone each. "They are too young to own a phone honey." She argued. "We are in the computer age" Jude replied. "...and any parent that deprives his/her child the use of technological gadgets is not doing them good at all." He added. "I'm not saying they should not use it at all, I'm only saying they should not use it now." Dami argued again. They both eventually agreed that their children could own and use a phone, but that they must not take it to school, and they also ensured that websites that are considered inappropriate for them are restricted, and can't be accessed. They also struck an agreement with their kids to be of good behaviour, and to increase or maintain their academic grades. This agreement, the twins kept to the latter, and Dami herself was already considering getting them a laptop. "Pick up my call please." Dami said to herself as Taye's phone rang without response. She called Kenny's number, and it was the same. In the middle of it all, a text came into her phone, and she read it almost immediately. "Don't bother calling them, they are here with me, and won't be able to pick your call. - The One" Dami's hand shook like lilly as she read the text. She decided to call back the number, but "the number you are trying to call is switched off. Please try again later." The female voice prompt said. Dami was shocked and surprised. "How can the number that called and texted me be switched off all of a sudden?" She wondered. She decided to call her husband to explain the situation of things to him, but before she could do that, a call came in again. She looked at the number with series of questions in her mind. "55901" was the number. As she picked the call, she was welcomed by a female voice advertising a particular product. "Press 1 to confirm or press 2 to cancel" The voice directed, after about 10 seconds of advert which Dami's mind was not involved in at all. Dami did not press 2, neither did she press 1. Instead, she went for the red button, as she hissed. Almost immediately, another call came in again, this time, it was a normal phone number. She picked the call, and was welcomed by a male voice. "I hope you have not called your husband, Jude?" The One said. "Please, who are you and what do you want? Where are my children?" Dami fired series of questions almost at the same time. "Don't rush me." The One said. "Let me answer your questions one after the other." He added, with a little laughter. "Which question should I answer first?" The One asked, chuckling. "See, Mr. De-worm or what did you call yourself..." Dami started. "The One. T-H-E O-N-E" The One corrected her by spelling out his name. "Whatever" Dami replied, becoming very impatient. She was sure it was no longer a prank, and was ready to be as rude as she needed to be. "Where are my children?" She asked with a very harsh tone. "I already told you they are here with me. Or, do you want to say hello to them?" The One replied. "Please, what do you want? How much do you want?" Dami asked. But this time, a little more polite. "Now, listen carefully." The One started, with a more serious tone. "I don't need your money, and I would not say this more than once. If you call anybody to tell them about this, then you would have to bury your twins with your hands." The One instructed. "Don't tell anybody. Not even your husband." He re-affirmed. "Please sir, what do you want?" Dami asked, with tears flowing down her cheeks. "I am God's punishment on you, and I will punish you accordingly." The One said. "I'll call you back in 20 minutes time. But remember, tell nobody." The One reminded her as the phone line went dead. "Hello sir... hello sir." Dami spoke to the dead phone. She checked the phone, and realized that the call was over. She called back the number, and was again told that, "The number you are trying to call is currently switched off... "
