*****DAILY DIET****
The work of a detective is not an easy one. It involves alot of risks and a lot of questioning, and the questioning part is what makes it complicated, because one will not know who to question, especially when one is going back to the crime scene after some days of the event. But still, one has to try. Detective Gbade did not feel burdened at all with the case he had to investigate. He knew it was a market where everybody would be busy with buying and selling, and the population of the market would not even permit a good interview. For that, Detective Gbade decided not to visit the market on its usual market day. That, to a large extent provided him with lesser crowd, and people were very willing and interested in attending to him. The first woman he interviewed was a pepper seller, who just finished displaying her wares for the day. After exchanging salutation, Detective Gbade made her understand he was not there to buy anything. The woman looked disappointed, and Detective Gbade was certain that only very little or nothing would come out from the woman, and his prediction was very right when the woman started answering with, "mi o mo oooo (I don't know oooo)" to every question she was asked, except for pointing to where the accident happened. Detective Gbade appreciated her and left her kiosk, as she murmured after the Detective. An Igbo truck pusher who almost hit Gbade with his wheelbarrow shouted. "Oga, commot for road na. Abi na cinema you come watch for market?" The truck pusher shouted at Gbade. "Oga, abeg no vex." Gbade replied. "Na wetin you dey find sef. Wetin you want buy?" The truck pusher asked Gbade out of concern. "Abeg, be careful for this market ooooo." The truck pusher added, parking his empty wheelbarrow beside Gbade. "Oh... really? Thank you." Gbade appreciated him as the man picked up his wheelbarrow to leave. "Oga, abeg wait." Gbade pleaded. "Wetin? You get load wey you want carry?" The truck pusher asked. "Hmmmmm... Yes. I get load wey I want carry. But, I no know if you go fit carry am." Gbade said. "Me? He no get load wey I no fit carry. Even if na dead body sef, I go carry am. As far say money dey." The truck pusher tried to convince his potential customer. "Infact, na me carry that guy wey motor jam for there last market day." He said, pointing to the place. "He just pain me say the guy later die." He added, feeling sober. That was enough for Gbade to work on. The noise in the market was not as much as when it used to be during market days, but, Gbade still had to strain his ears to hear the truck pusher. "OK. Make we go where the load dey." Gbade said, pointing to a direction. Gbade led the young man to a small section of the market where there are no much people. "Oga where the load?" The truck pusher asked. Gbade didn't say a word, but he dipped his hand in his pocket and handed a #500 note to the young man. The #500 note was enough to open the mouth of the young man. "I want ask you some questions, and if you answer me well, I go give you 1k join that #500" Gbade bargained. The young man looked dazed but struggled to ask, "wetin you want ask?" Gbade kept quiet for a while before saying, "wetin happen to that guy wey get accident the other day?" Gbade's heart beat twice normal. He whispered a prayer in his heart that God should make the guy tell him all he needed to know. "So, na wetin you want ask be that?" The guy asked Gbade with a slight laughter in his mouth. Gbade was disappointed. His prayer had not been answered. "That one na small matter na." The guy said, to Gbade's amazement. "I dey there when the car knock the guy down." He started. "Na as the guy fall for ground finish, na him one other guy just near am, as if say he want help am. I no know wetin he do for am, but I see say as he bend down for where the guy fall put, he be like say he shook am something." The guy narrated. "Really?" Gbade asked. "Yes." The guy replied. "People no too see wetin the guy do. But, before I say make I move near the guy, he don vamoose enter inside crowd." The guy explained. Gbade felt lucky to have come across a first hand witness who happened to be very cooperative. "But, if you see the guy, you go fit identify am?" Gbade asked. "Hmmmmm..... I fit know am sha." The guy replied, uncertainly. "The guy face new for this market, but if I still see am, I suppose know am." The guy added. Gbade kept quiet for a while when reality dawned on him. He was lucky to have found a cooperative firsthand witness, but the challenge was, how to get suspects for the truck pusher to identify. While he was still thinking, the truck pusher interrupted his thoughts. "Wait oooo... no be him be that?" The truck pusher asked himself, pointing to a shop opposite them "No be who be that?" Gbade asked. "Na him na. Yes. Na him." The truck pusher said again, further confusing Gbade. "What are you talking about?" Gbade asked, touching the guy out of curiosity. "Where my 1k?" The guy asked Gbade, stretching his hand. "Which 1k? We never finish na." Gbade said, defensively. "We don finish oooo.... na that guy wey dey buy something for that shop shook the guy wey die. I sabi am well well now." The truck pusher said, pointing once again.
