The Virgin Prostitute (Episode 3)

:::::The Narrator:::::

There are markets, and there are markets. One of the markets one can say has a good recognition in the entire Ogbomosho town is Kijipa market. With the name of the market got from one of Yoruba's adages, Kijipa market remained exceptionally good when it comes to the sales of foodstuffs. Although, Kijipa market was not left out also in the sales of other wares like clothing, electronics, among others. For many years,  the market was the major market in the neighborhood, and people travelled far and near to buy and sell in the market every 5 days. As for the noise in the market, it's not different from all other markets where both buyers and sellers try to over-power each other with their voices and also with their power of negotiation. "Ejo! E ta fun mi (please, sell it for me.)" A woman bargaining for a basket of tomatoes said at the top of her voice. "Rara o. Mi o ri ra be (No. I didn't buy it that way)" The seller replied almost immediately. It was just a matter a time before they both came to a compromise and the buyer went a way with the basket of tomatoes, with several "Ese oooo (thank you)" rushing out of her mouth.

Aside the fact that spirits and ghosts patronized Kijipa market, the market was also known for the use of charms and different diabolic means to trade. Some buyers come with various charms to enable them buy at any amount they tell the seller, while some sellers also use charms to sell at any amount they tell any prospective buyer they think has so much money. That was the case of a man who was buying from the market for the first time. He came with a huge amount of money, and when he was later narrating his ordeal after people calmed him down. He said he bought just a pair of shoes for one hundred thousand Naira. "Haha!  Ma ye'un ni yen (that is the work of the charm called 'don't argue with me')" One of the passersby commented. Obviously, the man wanted to buy a pair of shoes before going ahead to buy the electronics he actually came to buy, and the aftermath was that his money was gone. All of it, for a pair of shoes.

Among the numerous buyers in Kijipa market was Tolu, a little dark young man in his final year who engaged himself in clothing business. Tolu buys from Kijipa market and sold to students, hostel by hostel. Tolu already had a customer he buys from every market day, and his customer also prepares his goods beforehand. So, all Tolu does was to come around to pay for the goods,  and hires a truck pusher to carry his load to the main road for him. That was the exact thing Tolu did one fateful day. He paid for his goods, and hired a truck pusher to help him carry the goods out of the main market, to the main road. They were very close to the main road, and the truck pusher was pushing the truck far ahead, shouting "Chance! Chance!! Chance!!! " to warn anybody that might be on the way. Tade was also trying to walk fast to catch up with the truck pusher to avoid having the goods off-loaded where he didn't want. He was rushing and doubling his steps when all of a sudden, a car knocked him down from behind.  He landed on the bonnet of the car before falling down on the floor. People rushed to him, as the driver kept shouting for help, with his two hands positioned on his head. It was recorded that Tolu died right there on the spot. As he was carried to the hospital away from his own pool of blood, many sympathizers had their hands on their head, each wondering if that was how soon someone dies. Nobody knew what killed Tolu, not even the doctor that pronounced him D.O.A (Dead on Arrival). It was the mortuary attendant who was to wash Tolu's corpse that discovered a deep hole somewhere under his right arm where a long iron was. No doubt, Tolu did not die from the car accident, but from an Iron stab.

Welcome to another phase of the story. Did you at first thought it was the car accident that killed Tolu? So I would have thought too. But, too bad. He was stabbed after the car accident. But, who could have stabbed him, and why? Don't also forget that Lade has been introduced to a "deal" by Chike. How do we find Tolu's killer, and what would be Lade's end? Let's keep our fingers crossed as we continue the story.
