Ella learnt for sure that violence was not the best way out of her husband's attitude. Atleast, if not for anything, the fact that she tried it, and it failed, gave her the assurance that a better approach should be used. Then, it crossed her mind to PUSH. To PUSH and PUSH and PUSH. Immediately, she went on her kneels, very ready to Pray Until Something Happens (PUSH).
Ejigbo did not want to use the covenant between herself and Olori as a blackmailing tool at all. Infact, she had avoided several temptations to use it to win her to her side during some issues. But, this very time, she was pushed to the wall. She could not sit down and watch her only surviving son castrated right before her eyes. She had to do something, and the covenant between them was her only hope of getting Olori to her own side, meaning, redeeming her son. Olori herself had forgotten there was a covenant between herself and Ejigbo which Esu Laalu (Devil) himself was the one that sealed the covenant, and placed a curse on whosoever breaks the covenant.
Far beyond the time Olori emerged as the general leader of all witches, she was a good friend of Ejigbo. Although, she lived in a neighbouring town, but the regular market where they both met strengthened their friendship. It was the period Ejigbo lost Kehinde, and had only Akande as his only surviving son. She was advised not to sit at home so as to avoid unnecessary thoughts, because the whole trauma made her close down her mini-carteen. Her husband got a space for her at the main market where she started selling basic food items. Olori was the woman next to her stall, and in no time, they both became friends. It was just a matter of time before Ejogbo poured out her life experience and her fears for her only son. Olori sympathized with her at first, and she didn't offer to help her immediately. It was after a week when she was sure that Ejigbo was desperate enough to get protection for her only son, that she threw the offer to her. "Will you like to join the league of mothers who can protect your son?" Olori asked. "League of mothers?" Ejigbo questioned. Olori replied with a nod. Their conversation was interrupted when a customer came to buy from Olori. After attending to the customer, she went back to where she sat beside Ejigbo. "What would it cost me to join" Ejigbo asked. "Nothing" Olori answered, shaking her head. And with that, Ejigbo joined the cult, and their friendship became deeper than it used to be. For Olori, her main reason for joining the cult was to be powerful, while Ejigbo was after protecting her only son from danger.
Few years down the line, Ejigbo and Olori made their way up the ladder of the cult. To Olori's amazement, Ejigbo was made the 2nd in command, while she herself emerged the 3rd in command. But, when death suddenly took away the current leader, there came an urgent need to fill the position. Olori and Ejigbo were the only contenders for the position, and because they were friends, they talked things out. "I will allow you to take the position without sweat." Ejigbo promised Olori. Olori was grateful for her friend's sacrifice. "I will like us to take an oath so that we would not betray each other." Olori said. "I have given you my words. I will not betray you." Ejigbo assured. But Olori was not convinced. She wanted the position so well that she doesn't want any eventualities. At first, Ejigbo kicked against the idea of going before Esu to take an oath, but when Olori insisted, she accepted. "Afterall, I'm sure I will not betray her." She thought. After narrating all what they wanted before Esu, who was vigorously evoked by Olori, Esu granted their request by making them spill eachother's blood in a small calabash. The both drank it before Esu drank up the rest. "Ewa gbo oooo (listen now)" Esu shouted. "I will have to drink more blood before the covenant can fully stand." Esu said. "More blood?" The both exclamated. "Yes. More blood." Esu re-assured them. "Do you think you can just call me to bear witness to an oath with my busy schedule, without paying anything?" Esu asked them. Ejigbo and Olori both looked surprise. They didn't know it would turn out that way. Before they could ask further questions, Esu disappeared. A week after Olori was enthroned, nobody died in either family, and they both felt Esu had changed his mind. But, before the end of the following week, Ejigbo's husband shouted from his sleep, and that was his end. "I'm very sorry for the lose. I will make sure I do all that is within my power to protect your only son, and make sure he is far better than 10 sons." Olori consoled Ejigbo after the death of her husband.
"Ejigbo, don't even bring the issue of covenant here." Olori warned Ejigbo. "But, when and where should I bring it up?" Ejigbo questioned. "Tell me, when should I bring it up?" She asked again. Olori was quiet for a while before eventually saying, "Ejigbo, I am very sorry, there is nothing I can do to help." Ejigbo was shocked to her bones and marrows. She didn't believe Olori could disregard their covenant so easily despite the price she paid for Olori to get on the throne. "Well, if that is the case, I renounce my membership." Ejigbo declared.
