FLAMES OF EXPECTATIONS (The Final Saga)

"I lived with this man and his wife when I was growing up, and you are not that woman." Jade said, facing the woman. The woman was so disappointed, and she gave Mr. John a 'is-that-true' look. "Honey, I can explain" Mr. John said with a very apologetic look on his face. "You made me who I am" Jade said, as a very loud sound came out from her gun. Mr. John's body gave a thud sound on the ground as if one dropped a bag of cement. His wife rushed to him with tears in her eyes. "Why did you kill him?" Jakins asked Jade in amazement. "Because he deserves to die" Jade replied in a very harsh tone. The two girls started an argument about Jade's rash decision. "We agreed never to kill." Jakins reminded Jade. "How will I spare the man who damaged my life?" Jade inquired. Jakins could not find any word to counter her. She knew all about Jade's story. How she was wondering the street many years ago, before her own mother saw her and gave her shelter. Jakins' mother helped her abort the pregnancy after making Jade promise to do anything she wants if she helps her get rid of the pregnancy. Jakins, a small girl of about Jade's age tried to warn her not to accept her mother's offer. But, few days after the pregnancy was aborted, Jade was lunched out as one of the fresh prostitutes in the area. She resisted at first, but after a while, she yielded. It was few years later she was taught how to steal from her customers, before she eventually graduated to being a thief. With time, she added more ideas to the business by introducing guns, while Jakins was her closet friend all along. "Please, stop the argument, and let's get out of here on time." Jadon protested.

The fence did not gather more height than it had when they jumped in. So,  they found their way out again through the fence. They left in a hurry, as a result of what Jade did that they didn't cart away with any money from the Johns. Jade was the first to land on the ground at the other side, followed by Jakins. No sooner had Jadon landed that they heard the police siren. The siren was not loud, yet, it was not low. It sounded like the wailing of a young wife whose husband died few days after their wedding. It sounded from some distance away, but they were certain the police was coming in their direction. They rushed into their car which was carefully packed few steps away. Jadon turned on the ignition, but the car did not start. Instead, it gave a mocking sound as if laughing the girls  and their ordeal. The siren was drawing closer, so also, the car was laughing at them. As if it was planned, the three girls ran out of the car, and took to their heels. They all ran in different directions, as Jakins and Jadon ran straight ahead while Jade took the first turn to her right because they didn't have enough time to communicate or strategize. Unknowingly to Jadon and Jakins, the street was a cul-de-sac (a street closed at one end), and was later faced with a big house at the end of the street. It was in their effort to find another escape route that the police appeared with their van. "Hands up" A voice shouted, as the van parked a distance away from them. Jakins tried to be smart. She raised her gun to shoot the police, but before she could even pull the trigger, one of the police shot her straight at the left chest. Jadon, seeing her good friend fall on the ground, raised her two hands in absolute surrender. The road Jade took, led her to a sawmill, and she did not hesitate to find a hiding place. Where she hid, she saw a young boy who was sleeping on biscuit cartons. It reminded her of how she first started living on the street. Her own bed was more like that of the young boy's bed, and she was not sure which was better. The boy kept staring at her, and after staying there for a couple of hours, she looked at the boy and asked, "do you want to be rich?" The boy at first gave a blank look, and did not say a word. Jade raised her eyebrows as a way of urging the young boy to answer her question. After a while, the boy nodded. Jade was not sure what could be the boy's version of a street life, as a matter of fact, she didn't care. "Follow me, and I'll make you rich." She said, as she stretched out her hand to the boy. The boy placed his small hand on Jade's palm - the beginning of a new partnership.

One truth about life is that, it places a lot of expectations on you. It doesn't consider if you have what it takes to meet up to the expectations. And, many at times, when we don't meet up with these expectations, we burn. The flames of these expectations can atimes, push us to do what we don't want to do, or, what we never knew we could do.
