"Search all the rooms and bring everybody out." Jade commanded. Jadons and Jakins moved swiftly into the rooms in the house. The three ladies were known as "Jay 3" because their names start with letter "J". Jade looked round the big sitting room and nodded her head. She was certain they had hit a gold mine for the day. The wall was well decorated with different paintings, while only two human pictures competed for space with the paintings on the wall. There was a painting of a woman with a basket on her head and a baby on her back. With one hand, the woman held the basket on her head, while the other hand housed a cutlass. A cloth was tied round her chest, leaving her shoulder bare - a typical picture of an African woman returning from farm. Jade located the bar in the sitting room as she helped herself with a bottle of St. Remy. The wine was opened already, and she didn't even bother to use a cup. She simply grabbed the bottle and poured a good portion of the content down her throat. Close to the wall where the bar was, the picture of a matriculating student with a big smile stood alone. No doubt, the girl was happy to have been admitted, and from her face, one could tell she would not be above 16 years. Jade could hear footsteps approaching from the rooms. She took a turn to look at the other picture on the wall. It was that of a graduating student who was looking up to the sky, possibly to catch the graduation cap thrown up. The picture was that of a guy possibly in his early 20s. Jade's mind raced back to when she was young, and she had wanted nothing else but to be a graduate and throw her cap up the sky. Then, she had envisaged how vigorously she would throw the cap that the sky would not have any difficulty catching it. She smiled shyly at the beauty of the memory, and deep down in her heart, she knew she would still love to throw a graduation cap high in the sky, if given the opportunity. It amused her that she could still long for such a thing she longed for when she was a child. No doubt, some longings have nothing to do with age or time. In no time, her smile quickly betrayed her when she jerked back to reality with the presence of the hosts who were to entertain the August visitors.
The husband and wife were the only people in the house, and Jakins, did not hesitate to confirm that. "Na only the two of them dey the house." Jakins declared. The couples were made to crawl into their own sitting room, and was instructed to sniff the ground almost immediately they entered the room. The couples were shaking on the ground like a lilly plant. Not just because it amazed them how the three girls entered their house, but also because of the weapon of mass destruction they carried. Jadons had woken the couples up from sleep by simply cocking her gun. "Kraaaaa... " The gun sounded. The wife was the first to wake up, and behold, a big gun was right beside her head. "Shhhhhhh" Jadons warned as she placed her index finger vertically across her lips. "Wake your husband." Jakins said, as she put her left leg on the bed where the husband was. Mr. John gave a grumbling sound to register his displeasure over the disturbance. "Darling, wake up." Catherine said louder as she shook her husband vigorously. His opening eyes was welcomed by the two armed ladies at the two sides of his bed, and he didn't waste time before begging for his dear life and that of his wife. While on the ground, the couples begged for their life, as the wife also confessed all they had at home. "I have gold jewelries and bags." She pleaded with her face down on the ground. "Please, don't kill us. I have money here at home." Mr. John pleaded as he was fully stretched on the ground. "Keep quite and listen." Jade thundered, as she moved closer to them. The couples became silent immediately. "We are not here to kill you, and we would not kill you if you cooperate." Jade declared, as she placed her right leg on Mr. John's buttocks. "We are only here to collect our tithe from you." She added. "We would cooperate sir... ma." Mr. John assured, mistaking Jade for a man before correcting himself. "Now, get up and lead the girls to your room." Jade ordered. If only Mr. John knew what was to befall him, he would not have even bothered to appreciate the ladies' kind guesture of not wanting to kill them. As he got up to thank them, his face met with Jade. He paused. Jade was also shocked to see him. "Jade" "Mr. John" They both called at the same time.

I remember Charles Dickens' Great Expectation - a very interesting book, I must say. One thing I know about expectation is that, it is what one desires and look forward to. But, what happens when one's expectations are consumed by fire? How consuming is the flame of such expectation?
