DIARY OF AN UNMARRIED WIFE (Episode 5)

:::::::::17th October :::::::::

Dear Diary,

No matter how hard I try, my mind can not forget the things my husband did to me. The pains he made me passed through can not in anyway be measured, and as for forgiveness, I'll simply say, it's divine. After we got back from the hospital that day, he apologized again, and I didn't bother him with the details of what happened. I'm sure he didn't know I was aware of his lies about what happened to me, and about him calling himself my neighbour. He tried to cover up his flaws with some caring attitudes and actions. But, my heart was bent on not telling him about the terminated pregnancy. Soon enough, his caring attitudes yielded fruit, and I conceived yet another baby for him. I didn't hesitate to tell him this time, not because I regretted not telling him the first, but because, the baby could serve as my protector in times of punches and kicks. "Atleast, he would think twice before swinging his unprofessional punches at me this time around." I thought within me. Truly, I was right. No punches came throughout my pregnancy period. None. Not even after my delivery. But, 2 years after my first child, Pricillia, something else came. Something worse than punches and kicks.

Mama came to pay us a visit. "I'll be staying for few days." She declared. As she dropped her big bags which suggested otherwise. I welcomed her and took her to the visitor's room. "Mama, what will you eat?" I asked. She told me what she would eat, and I set out to get the ingredients for her unusual meal. I was supposed to meet with a business client that evening, but, I had to cancel the appointment, just to please my mother-in-law. I got back from the market about 30mins after, and I raced to the kitchen to prepare the meal. In about 45mins time, the food was ready. "Mama, the food is ready." I went to her room to call her. But, Mama did not respond. She didn't say a word, she simply kept quiet as if nobody was talking to her. I repeated myself, but still, she didn't say anything. So,  I went back to the dinning room, put the food in a tray, and I brought it to her. As I got into the room, she left immediately, as if the food was a poison that would kill her if she stayed a little longer in the room. She went straight to the kitchen, and started preparing her own food with the leftover ingredients that I used. She didn't say a word to me, and she didn't ask me any question. When she needs anything, she would open all the cabinets till she saw what she was looking for, and times I knew what she was looking for, I simply reached out for it, and drop it beside her. I stood by the door watching her as she prepared her meal. In the middle of this, my husband came in. I guess Mama had called him earlier that I left her all alone at home without even giving her food. As Jude came in, I went to embrace him. He simply stood like a statue, as I folded myself around him.  "where is Mama?" He asked almost immediately with an unfriendly tone. I collected his laptop bag, and dropped it on the table before I answered him. "She's in the kitchen." I wanted to say more. I wanted to tell him that Mama has been acting funny since she came. I wanted him to know that Mama has refused to eat her food, and had inturn entered the kitchen to prepare her own food. But, Jude did not wait to listen. He went straight to the kitchen. I went to drop his laptop in the room, and on my way out, I met Jude coming my way. His eyes were red and his face was very scary. "What happened? " I asked. Jude didn't say a word, he didn't even answer my question. Or, should I say he answered my question with a slap. "My mother was here since morning, and you could not even give her something to eat?" He asked with a thunderous voice. After the first slap, I held my cheek with my two palms as I raced to the kitchen to ask Mama what she told Jude. I had not even got to the kitchen when Jude pulled me back half way. "So, you want to go and beat up my mother?" He asked with both slaps and kicks. "You'll leave my house tonight." He declared. To cut it all short, that was how I was thrown out of the house around 8pm, and Mama did not say a single word all the time Jude was beating me. The twisting of the key at the back of the door made me certain that the devil in Jude had visited him again, and I have really been locked out of the house.

Did I tell you some mothers-in-law are evil reloaded? Well, now you know. To an extent, I don't blame the mothers-in-law that much. Instead, I blame men who would allow their mother live with them for donkey years, and even when issues arise, they would not find out the truth before taking actions. Mena has been sent out of the house at the oddest hour of the day, into the dark, lonely and cold night. What will then become of Mena overnight? The answer is in the next episode, which you and your friends don't want to miss.
