DIARY OF AN UNMARRIED WIFE (Episode 3)

::::::::::13th October::::::::::

Dear Diary,

After the doctor explained the situation of my husband, I could not help but shed tears. He consoled me by telling me it's not the end of the world. "It's just a partial Amnesia" The doctor said. "Can I see him now?" I asked, after crying for some minutes. The doctor called one of the nurses to take me to the room where my husband was. The room has only one bed, on which my husband was carefully placed. Two chairs were on both sides of the bed for visitors, while a small drawer was at one side of the bed. Jude was sleeping when I came in. His head was carefully bandaged as one of his hands has similar bandage too. "We would need to operate him" I remembered the doctor's words before the nurse came in. "…and we need to do it fast." The doctor added again before I left his office. Looking at my husband's bandaged hand, I could not help but wonder if that was the same hand with which he uses to beat me every now and then. Yes. I mean, he beats me.

When I said "Yes" to Jude, I didn't sign up to be a punching bag to an unprofessional boxer who cannot even control the direction of his fist. Jude has never raised a finger against me throughout the time we courted. Infact, he always treats me with respect and care. But, I guess, the respect and care had an expiry date. They say you don't know a man's true identity until he is rich. So also my husband, I didn't know his true identity until 3 months into our marriage.  It all started one Friday when I woke up feeling dizzy and unwell. I didn't know what was wrong, but I just know I felt heavy and sick. I managed to get out of bed, and prepared for work. Meanwhile, Jude was already set for work, and was leaving when I woke up. Later that day, I was feeling dizzy that one of my co-worker advised I go to the hospital. At the close of work at 4pm, I managed to go to the company's clinic. That was where the doctor made me know I was three weeks pregnant after he carried out a pregnancy test. But, the doctor insisted I rest a little before going home. "Madam, I can't allow you go home like this." The doctor said. All my efforts to call my husband to explain the situation of things to him were futile as he didn't pick his calls. At about 8pm, the doctor then offered to drop me off at home considering the fact that our ways were compactible. No sooner had I entered the house that my husband welcomed me with series of questions. "Where have you been, and who was that guy that just dropped you?" I could see the fire in his eyes, and I was not sure what to say. At a point, my legs could not carry my body anymore, so, I moved towards the nearest chair to sit. Jude pulled me back almost immediately, and gave me a hot slap followed by some punches. The next thing I remember was waking up in the hospital the following morning.
