SPILT MILK (Episode 9)

As she drove her 6 years old son back home, Mrs. Ajileye could not stop looking at him every now and then. She could not believe what had been happening right under her nose. Her 6 years old son had been sexually active. Series of questions crossed her mind as she wondered who could be responsible. Her mind went to his class teacher who had always been too fond of Ayodele. She would buy him things and give him special care and attention. There are times she visits them all in the name of saying hello to 'my love',  as she usually refered to Ayodele. Everytime she comes around, she would always insist that Ayodele sits on her laps. "That is what you earn for being intelligent." She would always tell Ayodele. Mrs. Ajileye was already burning within her. She has started thinking of how she would go to Ayo's school to disgrace the teacher. Then, her mind went to Pamilerin, her house help. The thought struck her like thunder, and she was convinced beyond all doubts that it was Pamilerin. Her mind flashed to three different occasions she had found Pamilerin in Ayodele's room at night. "What are you still doing here" She had asked Pamilerin on the first night she caught her there. "I want to rock him to sleep." She had told Mrs. Ajileye that very night. The other two occasions, Mrs. Ajileye did not bother asking what Pamilerin was doing in Ayodele's room. "Has he slept" Mrs. Ajileye asked. Pamilerin nodded as she left the room. The drive from the hospital back home look longer than it ought to be. Mrs. Ajileye did not know how to ask her 6 years old son who was responsible for his sexual activeness, neither was she sure of how to handle the issue when she gets home. She wished her husband was around. She wished the whole thing had happened during one of those rare times her husband was at home. She picked her phone to call her husband so as to tell him what was happening. The phone had started ringing before she changed her mind that it would be good she tell him when he comes back. "Hello dear" She said, when her husband picked the call. He asked about the situation of things at home. "When will you come back? " she asked. Her husband thought for some seconds before saying, "I should be back by month end." She was shocked. It was just the first week of the month, and her husband had left for about two weeks already, yet, he was saying he would be back by month end. "OK. Please, let's talk later." She said. As she ended the call, Ayodele looked straight into his mother's face and asked. "Mummy, why are you making calls when you are driving? You told us the other day that it is not good to be making calls when someone is driving." Mrs. Ajileye was caught unaware. She knew she owed her children an apology. A big apology, not an explanation.

They finally got home, and Mrs. Ajileye parked the car in the garage. She tried to pick her phones and purse before alighting from the car. "Mummy!" Ayodele called her. "Yes dear. " She replied with full attention and concern channelled to Ayo. "Mummy, aunty Pamilerin used to play with 'my thing' whenever she is bathing me, and everynight, she used to do it till I urinate." Ayodele said. Mrs. Ajileye was shocked by the look on her son's face. His face had the full look of an innocent child who has been enslaved to what he never liked doing. "Mummy, sometimes, she used to beat me in the bathroom if I tell her not to touch 'my thing'." Mrs. Ajileye was speechless. Words failed her. She wanted to ask the little boy how long she has been doing it. But, she opened her mouth, and words refused to come out from there. They both went inside the house where she encountered yet another issue. As she stepped in, she met Shola sitting in the sitting room. Her face was a little alarming, and she still used her blanket to wrap herself like a gift. "Mummy, I went to an all night party last night". Shola dropped the first bombshell. Her mother gave a very surprising look, and she wanted to say something when Shola interrupted her by vomitting right where she is. That would make the 7th time she would vomit since she returned. The thought of the rape irritates her alot, and it inturn makes her vomit. Mrs. Ajileye was short of words. She moved closer to her daughter. She had not taken up to three steps when Shola dropped the second bombshell. "...and I was raped last night." Mrs. Ajileye felt like her world was falling apart. She wondered why everything had decided to happen the same day. She didn't know what to do or say, but her phone killed the silence. She ignored the phone for a while, but the ring tone suddenly became so annoying to her. She picked the phone to busy the call. "Mr. Chinedu".The phone clearly revealed who the caller was. She didn't pick the call, and the caller didn't stop calling either. Mr. Chinedu was the man who gave Mrs. Ajileye all the clues she needed to get the just announced promotion. Some minutes after the third attempt which she still did not pick, a text came into her phone from the same caller. "The Regional Director just came, and he is trying to review your promotion. Please, come as soon as possible."
