BLEEDING SCARS (Episode 2)

It was already about 10 years since Mr. Ajileye sent Pamilerin out of their house. They had truly kept to their promise of sending her to school if she was willing to attend, and Pamilerin was also willing. So, they eventually helped her to go to school. They funded her university education from the first year to the final year. "Mama, we would like Pamilerin to stop working with us." Mr. Ajileye said when the couples visited Pamilerin's grandmother the following day they sent her out of their house. "But, why?" The old woman asked in anxiety. She had been questioning Pamilerin since she returned with her bags on why they sent her away. She had asked her if she didn't steal or fight. Pamilerin was also not sure why she was sent out, but she had simply believed that it was because she allowed Shola to go to the party where she was eventually raped. "Mama, there is no problem. It's just that I am now less-busy". Mrs. Ajileye explained. "I used to be very busy before, but now, I am less-busy. So, Pamilerin's services would not be needed anymore." She finally added. The old woman touched the ground and her chest three times as a sign of relief, and she expressed her gratitude to the couples, as she went ahead to also thank them for the several gifts they had been sending to her through her grand daughter. "Na God o". Mr. Ajileye said with a big smile on his face. Later in their car, before they drove away, they called Pamilerin's attention to the very reason she was sent out of the house. "Ayodele told me everything." Mrs. Ajileye said. Pamilerin was shocked and surprised. She was short of words. Mr. Ajileye advised her to stop such an act, as it would not help her at all. "I'm sorry" Shola struggled to say. "It's OK." Mr. Ajileye replied almost immediately. He further explained that they would still like to finance her tertiary education if she was willing, and of course, she was willing. She sat for the necessary exams before the end of that very year, and the following year, she got admission of study Theatre Arts. As if it was a hidden talent in her that even she herself knew nothing about, Pamilerin stood out among her colleagues, and even before her graduation, she was already a major actress in her school, and also in the movie industry. Her ability to act any role made her a hot cake for every producer and director, and it was just a matter of time before she released her own movie which reflected part of her past.

For such a smart and versatile actress, a lot of guys came her way with different antics to woo her to their side. Some were more intrested in her physical body, some (producers) were more intrested in the economical benefits of dating her, while only few were truly intrested in a serious relationship with her. As they say, "many are called, but few are chosen", and out of the few, Pamilerin had selected only Akin, a business tycoon. They both met when she went to a transporting company to hire a bus for her crew, to transport them to their location. Months after, the two of them were already close friends, and after a year, they both consummated their courtship in holy matrimony. Things went well few months into their marriage, and after a year, expectations on Pamilerin from her husband's family increased day by day, especially by her mother-in-law. Akin was the last and only child of his family, and for that, his mother had zero tolerance for any wife that wouldn't give her a grand child on time. Two years was so much time for Pamilerin's mother-in-law to run out of patience. She could not bear the thought of her son's wife not able to give her a grandchild, even if it's a girl. Pamilerin herself could not fathom what exactly was responsible for her childlessness, and it gave her so much concern. The pressure on her was not getting friendlier at all, and it was just a matter of time before she gave in to the counsel of friends. Her friends had advised her to visit a native doctor, who was known to be a specialist in such matters. Before then, Pamilerin had gone to a hospital where the doctor made her to understand that her womb had been damaged due to the abortion she did years ago. "But doctor, what then is the way out." She had asked the doctor in tears. The doctor, who was not moved by her tears at all, simply looked into her eyes and said, "madam, the damage was so much, and there is no chance at all for you." The doctor continued sorting out the documents on his table as if the issue at hand is of little or no importance. Pamilerin understood the doctor's message. She stood up to leave. "Madam, except God decides to have mercy on you." The doctor said. Pamilerin had got home that day to meet her mother-in-law at home, and the woman had simply given her a strong attitude. Pamilerin was certain that her days are numbered in her husband's house if she doesn't give birth on time, although her husband regularly tell her not to worry. "I am the owner of the house. Not my mother." He would always say.

There is an adage in Yoruba that says, "A prepared pounded yam can still be very hot even after many years. Hot enough to burn one's hand." What that adage simply means is NEMESIS. The evil that men do doesn't live after them, but instead, it lives with them. The abortions Pamilerin had when she was a teenager has now taken a full course on her, even now that she would have enjoyed a very happy and peaceful marriage. No doubt, sometimes, we don't know we have some scars until the scars start bleeding. The story remain BLEEDING SCARS... Join me again tomorrow as we continue the story.
