SHADOWS OF LOVE (Episode 2)

Ayandele did not foresee what would happen. If he had seen it coming, he would not have taken his lover along to Agbegbemi's father's burial ceremony. In his usual practice, he likes having his lover around him whenever he goes to perform in any function. Awelewa, to a very large extent is one of the most beautiful girls in Kijipa village. Her good character matches with her beauty, and that is why almost every man in the village wants to have her as their wife. So many had come to ask for her hand in marriage, and she had politely turned them down. Except for Agbegbemi, who made it look as if he would be doing Awelewa a favour by asking for her hand in marriage. Awelewa also did not fail to show him her worth by rubbishing him before his entire guards he brought along with him to her father's house. How Ayandele eventually won Awelewa to his side still remains a puzzle a lot of people. A whole Awelewa, the daughter of a respected Chief in the village falling in love with a poor orphan whose profession some people say is very similar to what beggars do. Awelewa had simply fallen in love with the simplicity of Ayandele's personality. She also sees him as a young man with good prospect and rare creativity. "I don't even know why I love you." She had told him during one of their love outings by the riverside. "But, why didn't you choose the rich Agbegbemi over me?" Ayandele asked her during one of her visits to his house. "That one?" She replied after hissing. "He is filled with pride and arrogance." She later added.

The burial ceremony was the talk of the entire village, as everybody almost lost count of the number of bulls and cows that were slaughtered that very week in the Agbelere's family compound. The dead had been buried, and it was time for merriment and entertainment; the very time Ayandele and his band were to perform. During the performance, Ayandele beckoned on Awelewa to come and dance with him. Awelewa felt shy, but she was encouraged by her friends to go. In no time, the two lovers started dancing, and they were so great with their dance steps that the whole crowed cheered and applauded them. All of a sudden, the unimaginable happened. All of a sudden the unexpected was unleased. All of a sudden, Agbegbemi angrily got up from where he sat. When Agbegbemi stood up, the crowd cheered louder thinking he wanted to dance with the two lovers, but to the expectation of all, Agbegbemi did what was not supposed to be done at a burial ceremony, especially, his father's burial ceremony. It was not only about what he did to Ayandele. It was also about the extent he went with what he did. It was also about making Awelewa cry after it all.
