ONE DAY, I WILL WRITE MY STORY (Episode 2)

I was tired after I returned from school that very day. Jide and I had had a fight, and I was so tired. I didn't want to fight him because I know it's not good to fight, but, Akin encouraged me to fight him. "If you don't fight him, he would continue to bully you." Akin affirmed. I saw reasons with Akin, and we agreed to meet on the field beside the school after school hours. The news of the proposed fight spread like wide-fire, and some minutes before the school closed for the day, Lola walked up to my desk and said in her sonorous voice, "I heard you and Jide want to fight. Is it true?" She looked at me waiting for a response, but I could not say a single word. Lola was the most beautiful girl in our class, and every guy always wants to talk to her, but, she was always selective with guys. On different occassions, I had tried to talk to her, but, either I don't have the boldness to face her, or when I open my mouth, words would not just come out. Although, I had a lot I could have said to her, but all the words seem to be stucked in my mouth. So, I kept staring at her without saying a single word. "Beat him very well for me." She finally said with a smile as she left me desk. During the fight, I had defeated Jide flawlessly, and my friends had celebrated me, including Lola. It was during the celebration that our class teacher, Mr. Arowolo saw us, and it was just a matter of minutes before he called our parents to tell them we fought at school. I knew what would be my portion on getting home, and not only that, Mr. Arowolo had promised to discipline us during the assembly the following day.

On getting home, my parents were not back yet, and as usual, I saw to dishing out launch to my siblings, which was always kept in a cooler on the dinning table. After eating, I was so tired, and I didn't even know when I slept off on one of our 3 chairs in the sitting room. I can't say precisely how long I had slept, but I know for sure that, what I saw before I slept were the last things I ever saw in my life. John, my younger brother was writing his assignment when (according to him), saw a cockroach on the chair I slept. He ran inside to pick the insecticide mom bought some days before that very day. By the time he returned to the sitting room, he couldn't find the cockroach anymore. He searched round the whole chair, and during this whole time, I was already half awake. "Where did this cockroach hide oooooo." I could hear him say. The very time I decided to open my eyes to see what John was doing, was the same time the cockroach crawled out of its hiding place underneath the pillow, and it was this same time that John fired a great portion of the insecticide into my eyes. I let out a very loud cry, as everything around me looked so blur and dark. Within minutes, tears were coming out of my eyes, and I was led to the bathroom where my siblings washed my eyes with soap, but no avail. And that was what gave birth to the fruitless efforts of restoring my sight.
