ONE DAY, I WILL WRITE MY STORY (Episode 3)

*****DAILY DIET*****

=====ONE DAY, I WILL WRITE MY STORY (Episode 3)=====

I could not see all that was happening around me any more, but I could clearly hear them. I could not make out the colours and sizes of things around me except the things I already knew before the incident. I was taken to different hospitals I didn't know there location, but I only heard the names when my parents were talking about tthe hospitals. Also, churches were not left out of the options my parents took me to, and on different occassions, I could hear the pastors praying ernestly for me to regain my sight. A particular prophet my mum took me to had told my mum that it was my father's famiy that made me blind in other to stop me from fulfilling my destiny. "We would need to appease the witches sent to blind him." The prophet told my mum. "Prophet, how do we appease them?" My mother asked desperately. Within me, I thought of John as the wizard sent to blind me. The thought of John being a wizard filled my mind, and at first, I found it hard believe that John could be a wizard. But, I began to accept it within me when I remember how he had killed a rat some weeks ago. The rat had being caught by the gum trap mum kept in the kitchen, and it was still alive when we came back from school, and John had just crushed the rat with his leg. My mind was still trying to get instances to affirm that John was a wizard when the prophet finished his acrobatic display and shouting, then he said, "we would need just one item. A green candle." "It is very rare, and it can only be bought in Jerusalem." The prophet added. My mum was still staring at the prophet when he finally said, "it would cost you #500,000. to get the candle from Jerusalem. But, you can decided to buy the one made in Nigeria, and that would cost you just #200,000. But I can't assure you of the effectiveness of the one made in Nigeria." The prophet continued his acrobatic display and shouting, and I could hear him jumping up and down. It was while he was still doing his acrobatic display that my mum grapped my hand and we left the place.

Sooner or later, days turned to weeks, weeks into months, and I was almost a year since the incident, and there had not been any solution. The only option that were given by some of the doctors was for me to be flown outside the country, and the money is what my family could not afford. The day my parents told me that there was nothing else that could be done about it was the very day I cried most in my life. All the while, they have been assuring me of my sight, and that had made me believe that I would regain my sight again. For days, I kept to my self. I refused to eat nor drink, and I refused to be led anywhere. I hated John so much then that I never wanted him to come around me. He had apologized countless times since the incident, and I had told him not to worry that I would soon regain my sight and we would still play "hide and seek" together again. But, when my parents told me that there was nothing they could do again, his apology became a venom to me. It hurt me more that he could even stand before me to apologize, and I could not make out anything out about how tall or big he had grown with few months. My parents told him to stop apologizing to me after the day I did the unimaginable to him. I was all alone in the sitting room listening to the sounds that were coming out from the television, I was trying to match the sounds with some actions so as to understand better. It was Tom and Jerry, and it was my favourite. From nowhere, I heard a very different voice. A voice that was not from the television, but was coming from the same direction with the television. "Akin, I am sorry." The voice said remorsefully. I knew it was John because that was how he had always been apolozing since the incident. The same four words, "Akin" He would call my name and after about 4 seconds, he would add his apology remark, "I am sorry." I told him to leave me alone. But John did not leave. Instead, he came closer to me and kept saying, "I am sorry." I didn't know what came upon me, but I know for sure that whatever came upon me was not in anyway part of my character. In a jiffy, I did the unimaginable....

As an English adage says, "Tooth for tooth would render us all toothless, and an eye for an eye would make us all blind." Can you guess what Akin did to John? Can you imagine the unimaginable thing he did to John? Well, if you can't, you know what to do. Keep your fingers crossed as tommorow is yet another day to continue the story.
