Ariike ran as fast as her legs could carry her, and she navigated the bush-paths as she occasionally looked back to see if the men were still chasing her. She could feel water on her legs which was from the rain that had descended the night before. The first rain of the year it was, and as they say, the first rain of the year does not deceive a good farmer. Ariike's breath was louder than her footsteps, and she held on tightly to what Atoyebi had handed over to her some couple of minutes ago. "I can't go further than this. I don't have enough strength to go on." Atoyebi had told her. "No! My friend. We started this journey together, and we shall finish it together." Ariike reached out to help her only and childhood friend, but her own strength was not in any way enough for two. "Take." Atoyebi said, handing something wrapped with banana leaf to Ariike. "keep running. Don't stop until you get home." Atoyebi concluded as she fell on the ground. As they say, "a friend in need is a friend indeed." Ariike lifted her friend up, and rested her back on a nearby tree. "I can hear their footsteps. Ariike ! Run! Run!!!" Atoyebi shouted. It was not easy for Ariike to leave her friend behind, but she just had to. Time was against them, and so also the warriors of Ilumoka village.

Back at Olomoyoyo (their village), things were no longer the same. Peace had journeyed away from the village, and it was sure peace left with good health. Death and sicknesses had changed position with peace and harmony, as bodies were buried on daily basis. Death has left the masses and had started taking from the chiefs' family. On the previous day, Chief Balogun had single-handedly buried his first daughter, while Chief Osi buried his youngest son the day before. The week before, Chief Iyalode had already buried two of her seven children, and that very day was the day Chief Otun was burying his 4 year-old daughter. Who had died after displaying some unbelievable attitude of madness. As they say, "if there is no reason, a 3 year-old child is not supposed to run mad." And the way things were going, they were so sure that the next day would be the king's turn to bury a child. This gave them so much concern as the king had only one child – the prince. Everything rested on Ariike's return. Every single thing anxiously awaits them, even the chickens and goats in the village.
