The powerholders must have put themselves in Ola's shoes. They must have felt her pain to have ceased the light at the very time that all was to come to an end as far as Ola's hair is concerned. Her mother-in-law hissed and they stood up from the wooden stool she was sitting on. Ola had a temporary relieve eventhough she kew that the powerholders did not in any way stop the whole thing from happening, they only postponed it, and the postponement is to her an act mof miracle. "Tradition demands" her mother-in-law's words ran through her mind again. She wanted to cry, but tears refused to come out. In a flash, her mind went back to how she and Chike had got to that point of mourning him. The had met in school during her undergraduate days. Chike was trying to do his final year screening, and needed to buy a new file, while Ola on the otherhand just got admitted into the school. She thought Chike was one of the jambitos like her, and she just felt like putting him through with his screening because she was through with her's. "Are you just resuming for screening?" Ola asked Chike as if they have known before. "I just finished mine now, and it was so stressful. Dem just dey push person for there." Chike could not help laughing. "What is wrong? Why are you laughing?" Ola wanted to know. "The file is for my final year screening." Chike said in a very pathetic voice. Ola felt extremely embarassed, and that was how they became friends. From friends to soul mate, and from soul mate to couples after some years.
The tears finally came out, just when her mother-in-law came back into the house. Ola could not believe what her eyes were seeing. Her mother-in-law came back with a portion of native soap, a pair of scissors and a new razor blade. She does not need a fortune-teller to tell her what does things were for. She felt humilated. "Why not the clipper?" She asked her mother-in-law as she did not know why. Her mother-in-law did not even say a word, as she attacked the hair with the scissors. In no time, the floor was filled with hair, as Ola was just turned into a hairless lady. Her mother-in-law moved towards the door, as she looked back at Ola and said, "Ola, it is time. The kinsmen are waiting." Ola wondered what was next. What else could be next after her hair was gone. Chike had given her a run down of how their burial rites are done, but she just seemed to have forgotten, and now, it is time for her to....
It is time for Ola to do what or go where? Let's find out tomorrow as we continue the story of the woman dying young.
