A PHONE CALL (Episode 6)

Dami did not expect the conversation to end that way. She was hoping she could negotiate for another option with The One, but to her surprise, The One did not even hear her out at all. She stood up from the bed where she sat, and she went close to her window. She was hoping she could see Uncle T around. Although, she vowed never to go to his house again since after the incidence, but this time around, she had little or no choice. She needed to talk to someone who The One would not expect her to speak with, and such a person was Uncle T. After that morning, at Uncle T's house, she warned him seriously never to come close to her family anymore, and even when her children asked her why Uncle T was not visiting them anymore, she simply told them he was busy at work. The children were not so much convinced, but they had nothing else to believe. When her husband too noticed that Uncle T hardly visited, she simply told him its because he is getting married. "Getting married?" Jude exclamated. Dami nodded. "To who? I thought he said he was still single?" Jude asked. "I thought so too." Dami replied, trying to bring the conversation to an end. When Dami looked from her window, it was as if nobody was at home, except for one of the windows that was opened. "I think, I have to see Uncle T." She concluded. She tried calling The One before she left the house, but his number was still not reachable. As she was about to leave, she had a phone notification. At first, she wanted to ignore it, but she later decided to check the notification. So many notifications were already on her phone. Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Gmail. But, the very one that caught her attention most was the email from theonereadyforyou (at) gmail.com. The subject was, I THINK YOU NEED TO SEE THIS. There was nothing in the body of the mail, except for an attachment. She quickly downloaded the attachment, and was shocked by what she saw. It was a picture of someone holding a knife across Taye's neck. In the picture, Taye was sitting on a chair facing the camera, while Kehinde was also sitting on another chair backing the camera. From the look on Taye's face, it was obvious that they were tied to the chair. She couldn't see the face of the person holding the knife. It was only the person's hands which was covered with black gloves that were visible. "Jesus!!" Dami shouted. She felt as if the knife was put across he own neck. "Eh! Ha! Eh! Ha!" She kept shouting, alongside some few words of prayer for her children as she raced out of the house to Uncle T's place. She was almost at the doorstep when a call came in. She didn't even look at the caller before picking. "Please, I'm very sorry. I don't mean to dare you." She said, immediately she picked the call. "Dare who?" Jude asked her. Jude's voice brought her back to her senses, and she checked the phone to be sure it was Jude. Her phone confirmed it. "Hello...hello. Honey, are you OK?" Jude asked. "Yes. I am." She replied, switching her voice back to the calm regular voice. "Dare who?" Jude asked. "Oh! I'm sorry. I was sleeping when you called." She lied. "I must have spoken from my dream." She added. There was silence from the other end before Jude asked, "are you sure?" "Yes. It was just a dream" She lied again. "So, how is your journey going?" She asked him. "Well, that was why I called." Jude replied, trying to let go of her unrealistic statement. "The meeting was postponed till further notice." Jude explained. "So, I'll be back home very soon." He added. "You are coming back home?" Dami asked, raising her voice a little beyond normal. "Do you have a problem with that?" Jude asked. "No oooooo...I'm just surprised." Dami replied. "Are you sure you are fine?" Jude inquired, sensing the restlessness in her. "I'm fine dear. I just need to rest." She replied. "Alright. I see you soon. Love you." Jude said, as he ended the call.
