MAN ON THE RADIO (Episode 2)

The building was well branded with Swift FM,  and almost all the items in it carried the name of the radio station. Even most of the staff wore the station's branded shirt. The reception was a little spacious, and Bonny could not help but wonder why such a huge space would be wasted. Where he came from, space was a very rare commodity, and you dare not joke with any available space. The receptionist gave him a very pleasant smile which totally caught him on aware. He was not expecting a smile from the young beautiful lady. Not because he didn't deserve a smile, but because he was not used to being smiled to, and he himself, hardly smiles because life had not given him a reason to. If at all he smiled often, it would be when he pulls his trousers to forcefully release feaces out of his bowels. The place he does that was close to a heap of rubbish somewhere around where he lives, or, where he sleeps, under the bridge. Bonny was one of the people who had little properties in life. His major possession was a very thick cardboard which was torn and tattered. He also had a spoon which he used to eat during emergency situations.  As for where he sleeps, it was a little corner under the bridge, which he was fortunate enough to have got when the old man who owned the spot died. As for under the bridge, it was always flooded at night with people who assumed different positions, just to pass the night. Some simply sleep by resting their back on the wall, anxiously waiting and praying for the legitimate owners of a space to get up to ease themselves. As for the so-called legitimate owners of a space, they all knew so well that their legitimacy ends once they get up to do one thing or the other. So, as a legitimate occupant of a space, you must not get up, even if you are very pressed.

"Are you here to see MC Classic? " The receptionist asked Bonny with yet another smile. Bonny nodded his head reluctantly, as he also tried to smile back. But, his mouth was already alien to smiles, and he could hardly formulate one. "Come with me. He's expecting you." The lady said with yet another big smile. As they climbed the stairs, they met another lady who greeted him with yet another smile. Bonny liked the radio station. If not for anything, atleast, for the smiles on everybody's lips. He wanted to smile to, but, the street had so much harden his lips that a smile was hard to come by. "Please, sit here. He would join you soon." The receptionist said with yet another smile. Bonny wanted to speak. He wanted to ask the lady why everybody at the radio station smiled.  But, his mouth did not open, and he could not help but stare at the young lady as she walked away. "You came earlier than we agreed." MC Classic's voice interrupted Bonny's thoughts. "Yes sir." Bonny replied. "We are on a 30-minute news break. We would go into the studio together after the break" MC Classic explained. "OK sir." Bonny replied. "What should we get for you? Will you take Malt?" MC Classic asked. "Yes sir." Bonny replied, smiling shyly. He didn't know he smiled. Infact, he didn't know he could smile so good until he caught himself smiling effortlessly in the studio.

"How many hours more before we get home?" Tade asked the driver. "If there is no traffic around Redemption Camp, we should get home in about 1 hour 30 minutes from now." The driver replied. Tade was still surprised that a well-educated man could work as a driver in Nigeria. The driver was one of his parents' drivers, and he was sent to come pick him at the Muritala International Airport in Lagos. The driver had to leave for Lagos very early that morning so as to be able to meet up with the said 7am arrival time. He wanted to ask the man why he was working as a driver, but he felt it was not necessary.  "Welcome back from that news break. I'm sure you were info-tained by that news session." MC Classic's voice from the radio announced, interrupting Tade's thoughts yet again. "Just as I told you earlier, I have a young man here with me." MC Classic continued. "So, what is your name?" MC Classic asked. "My name is Bonny." Bonny struggled to say. "Can you speak up a little." MC Classic suggested. "Bonny" He replied, shouting a little to loud. "Tell us more about yourself." MC Classic said. "Please, turn down the radio a little." Tade ordered the driver as he tried to pick an incoming call. Tade was about to pick the call when he heard a very loud sound.
