MAN ON THE RADIO (Episode 1)

"Time check now is 7am". The voice on the radio declared after releasing a soft R&B song that made Tade shake his head.
"Welcome to another wonder episode of Morning Ablaze" The voice on the radio continued. Tade checked his wristwatch to be sure it was not speaking a different language from the one announced on the radio, and indeed, his wristwatch was speaking an entirely different language. He had forgotten to reset the time when he got to the airport. He quickly made the move to set the time to Nigerian time. Before he set the minutes, he hesitated a little as he was not sure if he should make the time 10 minutes faster as he used to do when he was in America. "It's not necessary anymore" He said to himself, as he set the time to 7:01. "Before we take today's topic, let's quickly take this musical break" "The voice on the radio said again, and almost immediately, Hezekiah Walker's "I Need You" took over. Tade remembered the song so well. It was one of the songs he loved to hear, but had not listened to it for a very long time. Work was very challenging for him in America that he hardly had time for himself. As a young medical doctor, Tade, was always in the hospital to attend to one emergency or the other. Not because the hospital management made him work that much, but, he volunteered to work on two different shifts to enable him make more money. His plan was to quit the job after some years, and come back home to set up a small hospital or a laboratory. Things actually went according to his plan. When he officially announced his resignation from the hospital, all the staff and patients felt bad. They loved him so much that they never wanted him to leave. They called him Doctor Tad, and he was dedicated, caring and easy-going. Brenda was the girl who cried most during Tade's Sent-forth Ceremony. The reason for her tears, many do not know, not even Tade. " Tad, go and develop your country." Doctor Hills, told Tade during the Sent-forth Ceremony. "I won't harm you. With words from my mouth... " The music was almost coming to an end when Tade's phone buzzed.

He brought out his phone from his pocket to check the incoming message. It was that same time the driver, who was silent all along, initiated a conversation. "How long have you been away?" The driver asked. Tade was not sure if the driver was talking to him, so, he hesitated before responding. "15 years" Tade replied. His mind went back to the incident that made him travel outside the country at the age of 17, almost immediately after his secondary school education. "Why did you ask?" Tade questioned the driver. "I was just curious." The driver replied. Tade was very surprised to hear the driver speak good and correct English. His notion about Nigerian drivers is quite different from what he is experiencing now. "Welcome back from that musical break." The voice from the radio said, interrupting their conversation "This is still Swift FM 85.7, and I remain your regular host, MC Classic." The voice continued. "Crime rate in the country is on the increase, and from research and statistics, most of the criminals on the street are products of bad parenting." The voice added. "Which country are you coming from?" The driver asked. "Which country are you coming from?" The driver asked again after some seconds. Tade was engrossed in what was discussed on the radio that he didn't hear the driver at all. His mind reflected at the events that happened years ago, before he travelled outside the country, and he wondered if he was not a criminal too.
