FATE ON A SWING (Episode 2)

"Oga, see, I need to attend to someone else. Just go and get the money." The Doctor said to Gbadebo with a finalizing tone. "Mr. Henry, please, let's go to my office" The Doctor said, facing Mr. Henry. As the Doctor and Mr. Henry left the reception, Gbadebo was now on his feet, and was running after the Doctor trying to plead with him. "Oga, ejo. E ba mi be won (oga, please, help me beg him)" He said, facing Mr. Henry. Mr. Henry could not even understand what Gbadebo was saying. Not that he did not understand Yoruba, but he was more concerned about the urgent call from the Doctor. He was looking at Gbadebo, but, could not even hear anything he was saying. Gbadebo followed them into the office. "Oga, please, stay outside" The Doctor instructed Gbadebo. But, he didn't leave, he stood by the door, and was still pleading, showering all forms of prayers on the doctor and his family. "Doctor, what did you say happened? I was in a meeting... " Mr. Henry was trying to ask the doctor when he was interrupted by yet another command by the doctor. "Oga, go outside. I will attend to you once I'm through." The doctor shouted. But, Gbadebo still, did not leave the door. He only stopped praying, and inturn, started gesturing like a beggar. At that point, Mr. Henry was loosing his patience. He was very anxious to know what the doctor had to say, and the doctor did not want to talk while Gbadebo was there. "Oga, abeg, go outside first. Once the doctor is through with me, I will make sure you are the next person he attends to." Mr. Henry said to Gbadebo trying to appeal to him to leave. "Oga, my wife fit die before the doctor finish with you." Gbadebo tried to explain. "Doctor, is that true?" Mr. Henry asked the doctor. "Sir, don't mind him. His wife is in labour, and he could not even pay any deposit, yet, he wants us to attend to his wife. That is against our mode of operation here." The doctor explained. "Is that all?" Mr. Henry asked, facing Gbadebo. He replied with a nod. "Doctor, attend to his wife, I will take care of the bills." Mr. Henry said. "Thank you sir" "God bless you sir"  Gbadebo started another prayer session for Mr. Henry. The doctor picked the intercom. "Nurse Titi, come to my office." In no time, a lady was at the doctor's office. The way she dressed made it very difficult to tell if she was a nurse or a prostitute. Her cloth was so tight that one could tell the size of her body by just looking at her. Even the gown she wore was having a misunderstanding with the ground. So, it avoided the ground as much as possible. After about every 5 steps, the lady would draw the gown down, as if to reconcile the gown and the ground. But, obviously, the gown was not ready for a reconciliation, and it finds its way up her laps again as if rejecting the reconciliation offer. "Sir, you called me." The lady said, after entering the doctor's office. Gbadebo was standing by Mr. Henry showering prayers on him. He had told him to stop on three different occasions, but he wouldn't. "Tell doctor Akin to attend to this man's wife." He said, pointing to Gbadebo. "Thank you sir" Gbadebo kept repeating. "Yes sir." The nurse said, as she left the office. The doctor looked lustful at the lady's behind, and one could tell what was going on in his mind. "Oga, it's OK." Mr. Henry said to Gbadebo. "Why don't you go and meet them to be sure they attend to your wife." As if that was the brightest idea he would hear in years, Gbadebo jumped up his feet, and raced out. "Doctor, what happened? " Mr. Henry demanded again. "Mr. Henry, things did not go as we planned." The doctor declared. Mr. Henry was so grieved. It hurt him so much. "But, I think there is another way around it" The doctor tried to explain. "Let me go and attend to that man's wife myself." The doctor said. "Are you saying I can still be a father today?" Mr. Henry asked. "Yes." The doctor said with all assurance as he stood up from his chair to leave the office.

Later that evening, Mr. Henry was with his wife in one of the private rooms in the hospital. Beside them was a cradle that housed a beautiful baby girl. Some friends and family were also around to congratulate them for the goodwill fate brought to their doorstep. They were so happy. In the middle of things, Gbadebo walked in. "Sir, thank you so much." Gbadebo said, facing Mr. Henry. He had got the details of where Mr. Henry was from the doctor when he went to appreciate him again.  "Abeg, make una help me thank this man ooooo. If no be him, my wife for no born oooo." He said, facing those standing. "Oga, na God do am." Mr. Henry said. "Na boy she born." Gbadebo said, as if making a confession. "Congratulations" Mr. Henry said, after which he faced his wife, and whispered to her ear.
