SHADOWS OF LOVE (Episode 6)

Awelewa's shouts and screams did more than attract the neighbours around Ayandele's house. It went as far as attracting Mama Risika who was known to be the best gossip in the entire village. Mama Risika was so good at gossiping that she could even gossip herself, and she was the first person to arrive at the scene, and seeing Ayandele's body on Awelewa's legs, she took to the street that Awelewa had killed Ayandele. "She has killed him oooo" She kept shouting as she ran across the streets. It was then the implication of the whole scenerio occured to Awelewa. "Killed him?" She asked herself. "I did not kill him o." She said as she ran after Mama Risika. On getting outside, she was not sure of the direction Mama Risika took, but unfortunately, she took another direction. Mama Risika's "mega-phone" voice had attracted a lot of people. "I saw her strangling Ayandele" Mama Risika told every ear willing to listen. In no time, crowd had gathered at Ayandele's house. Different people with different standing positions. Some had their hands behind them, while some had their hands beside their waist. Some of the women had their hands on their chest, as other women placed their two hands on their head. They had gathered in groups of small numbers, while the largest group was the one Mama Risika herself coordinates, as she recounts the story over and over again to listening ears.

The issue did not take time before it got to the Baale (village head), and immediately, he called for the arrest of Awelewa. Awelewa cried her eyes out when she was arrested by the guards. No doubt, her tears were in two diamensions. One for the death of her precious lover, and the other, the fact that she would suffer for what she knows nothing about. As the guards dragged her away from her father's arms, people had already gathered in groups. Some sympatized with her, while some felt that she deserved whatever punishment that would be attributed to her. In Kijipa village, even a little child knows the offense of killing someone. Such a culprit is regarded to have commited an abormination, and his or her head would be used to appease the gods of the land. Chief Arowolo could not bear the hurt and the pain of seeing his only child taken away. He went inside his hut and started crying. Some of his friends had also come around to console him. He was so lost and confused. "My backbone has been taken away." He shouted. In a hurry, his mind went to how he had lost 3 children to war some years ago. Then, his wife was pregnant, and his wife had narrowly escaped death during the war. It was few months after the war that his wife died shortly after giving birth to Awelewa. Since then, Chief Arowolo had refused to re-marry, and had taken Awelewa has his only wife and daughter. Chief Arowolo stirred at the thatch roof of his hut again. "But, was this the plan I had with Agbegbemi?" He asked himself. "How could Agbegbemi betray an elderly man like me?" He wondered.

What plan did Chief Arowolo have with Agbegbemi? How did Agbegbemi betray Chief Arowolo? What would be the fate of the poor little Awelewa? These questions are deep and only time can provide the answers to them. So, join me again tomorrow as we continue the story. Don't forget, it's SHADOWS OF LOVE.
