The issue did not take time before it got to the Baale (village head), and immediately, he called for the arrest of Awelewa. Awelewa cried her eyes out when she was arrested by the guards. No doubt, her tears were in two diamensions. One for the death of her precious lover, and the other, the fact that she would suffer for what she knows nothing about. As the guards dragged her away from her father's arms, people had already gathered in groups. Some sympatized with her, while some felt that she deserved whatever punishment that would be attributed to her. In Kijipa village, even a little child knows the offense of killing someone. Such a culprit is regarded to have commited an abormination, and his or her head would be used to appease the gods of the land. Chief Arowolo could not bear the hurt and the pain of seeing his only child taken away. He went inside his hut and started crying. Some of his friends had also come around to console him. He was so lost and confused. "My backbone has been taken away." He shouted. In a hurry, his mind went to how he had lost 3 children to war some years ago. Then, his wife was pregnant, and his wife had narrowly escaped death during the war. It was few months after the war that his wife died shortly after giving birth to Awelewa. Since then, Chief Arowolo had refused to re-marry, and had taken Awelewa has his only wife and daughter. Chief Arowolo stirred at the thatch roof of his hut again. "But, was this the plan I had with Agbegbemi?" He asked himself. "How could Agbegbemi betray an elderly man like me?" He wondered.
What plan did Chief Arowolo have with Agbegbemi? How did Agbegbemi betray Chief Arowolo? What would be the fate of the poor little Awelewa? These questions are deep and only time can provide the answers to them. So, join me again tomorrow as we continue the story. Don't forget, it's SHADOWS OF LOVE.
