RACHEL IGE is one of the promising young female poets in her school(University of Ibadan), and the Nation at large. Her unique style of writing makes her contemporaries wonder where she gets her inspiration from, but, just like every other poet, Rachel sucks from the goddess of MUSE as well, just that her creative mind gives her that uniqueness which is very rear. Also, as one of the finalists in the just concluded NEGO POETRY CORNER CONTEST, Rachel is indeed an outstanding poet to watch out for. Below is one of her recent works.
MY DIARY MY BESTFRIEND(Episode Broken Heart)
Dear Diary,
He used to be mine,
With him I could cross the line
And know we would still be fine.
Things changed, I drank the jealousy wine,
He left and now I pine.
He tore that bond,
Like a flimsy rope he cut the bond
I thought indestructible...
Just as jealousy got hold of me,
Ego stole into him.
I never told him his worth,
Never did show him how important he was to me,
But I sung his praises at his back...
Broken hearted now,
Am not wondering how I'll cope,
African women are not feeble,
And I'm one of the strongest....
Am just wondering if he'll come back,
And even if he does,
Will things ever be back to normal?
'Cos I've discovered I'm a "one chance" girl,
When it comes to opportunities..
And though I wasn't fair to him
I expected him to ALWAYS be there,
The way you expect your parents to remain yours
Even when you mess up real bad.
He wasn't a boyfriend, fiance or husband
A SOULMATE was he
(or so I thought)
Even compared it to the unconditional love
Yoon Ji Hoo had for Geum Jan Di.
Well, I guess love like that only exists in movies.
...too good to be real.
So, long diary,
I'll wait on the hills of hope.
Farewell.
Yours sincerely,
Broken Heart.
