 30 THINGS YOU MUST DO BEFORE YOU ARE 30 YEARS OLD

INTRODUCTION

On seeing this topic for the first time, someone older than 30 years would simply disregard this and say, “This is not for me. Atleast, I’m above 30 years old”. But, I would not fail to quickly add that this is not mainly for those who are yet to clock 30 alone. It goes for those who have crossed the line of 30 years too because they need to know what they ought to have done before they were 30, so that they can look into it, because, it is never too late. Having this in mind, I’ll like to say that this article is to enable, enrich and empower us for the tasks ahead. In other words, to implement us with spectacles to tackle those obstacles ahead.

*****DISCOVER YOURSELF*****

The first and foremost thing you most do before you are 30 years old is to discover yourself. People struggle in life because they don’t know who they are, and that is why many are treated as inferior in the society. My friend, before you are 30 years old, God expects you to know your gifts, abilities, talents, dos and don’ts, etc. “Until a man discovers his gifts, he cannot be a gift to his society and until he’s a gift to his society, he cannot be celebrated”. There are a lot about knowing oneself and that why Socrates said, “Man, know thyself”.

*****LEARN HOW TO USE YOUR GIFTS TO SOLVE PROBLEM***** 

Before you are 30 years old, you must know how to use your gifts to solve problems and to meet people’s demand. A quote says, “it’s either you are a man in need or a needed man”. A man in need is that man who has nothing, while a needed man is a man who his society depends on for existence and survival; a man his society cannot live without. So, before you are 30, know how to use your gifts to solve people’s problems and meet their demands.

*****LEARN HOW TO MAKE MONEY***** 

As a man/woman who in the next few years would settle down as a wife or husband, you must learn how to make money before you are 30. As for ladies, the society we are today does not embrace wives who do not work, neither are guys ready to marry liabilities. To know this, you must know how to LEGALLY make money from other people’s ignorance and you must as well understand the principles of Potential Difference.

Number 4

*****KNOW THE MEANING OF LOVE*****

"I love you". This is a sentence that has marred the lives of many, simply because they don't know the meaning of love. My people, before you are 30 years old, you must have known the meaning of LOVE. You must be able to explain what someone means when he/she says, "I love you". You must be able to know what it entails to love and be loved, because love is a choice and a responsibility. Love is all about giving and not exploitative. There are more to love and maybe subsequently, we'll discuss it to the fullest.

*****A MAN MUST KNOW HOW TO PROPOSE TO A LADY*****

This might look strange to you, but it's a fact that must not be omitted. Before a guy clocks 30, he must know how to propose to a lady because such a guy is approaching his marital life and there is a need to set the foundations right, for the way a guy proposes to a lady goes a long way to determine alot of things. Some guys are so fake that they cook up junks as stories and dish it out to a lady with the aim that the lady would later accept. I tell you, it does not work that way because ladies like uniqueness, mostly, when it comes to the issue of proposal. So, to the guys in the house, before you are 30, you should know how to propose to a lady.

*****YOU MUST HAVE READ ATLEAST 30 BOOKS*****

"He who does not read is equal with he who cannot read". I won't put much emphasis on this because "A word is enough for the wise". So my people, before you celebrate you 30th birthday, you must have read a minimum of 30 books.

*****YOU SHOULD BE KNOWN FOR SOMETHING*****

The issue of consistency in all what one does matters alot, little wonder the Bible says, "see a man diligent {consistent} in his work...". Before you are 30 years old, you should be known for something. A unique thing you do that people can attribute your name with. The thing might even earn you a nickname, but if you remain consistent in doing it, it shall make you dine with queens and kings. My beloved, you don't have to be known for everything because "Jack of all trade, master of none." So, here's wisdom, before people would wish you well on your 30th birthday, you should be known for something.

*****HAVE A MENTOR*****

I remember once coming in contact with a book titled, WHAT MY MENTOR TAUGHT ME and mere looking at the book, one would have no doubt that the book is fully "loaded". Well, I'm not going to talk about the book, but, I just want to let you know that, if you know what you're doing and you know where you're going, before you clock 30, you must have a mentor. Who is a mentor? A mentor is that person who has got to where you're going to or has the light and map that would help you to your destination. I'll emphaize so much on this because many people don't know that the role of a mentor cannot be over-ruled in their lives. Some people even take "role-model" to be the same thing with "mentor". I fear for some people when they say things like, "Wole Soyinka is my mentor", "Micheal Jackson was my mentor", etc, and the question I'm always forced to ask is," have you met him/her before?" and you'll be shocked to hear the person say NO. Someone you've not met or come in contact with, not even once, cannot be your mentor. Such a person can only be your role model, because a mentor is someone you seat at his/her feet to learn wisdom. You should aswell celebrate and appreciate your mentor openly. "When you stand on the shoulders of people who have gone ahead of you, you'll see farther".

*****LEARN HOW TO SAY "NO" WITHOUT FEELING GUILTY*****

One major sign of maturity is saying "NO" without feeling guilty. Before you are 30 years old, you should learn how to say "NO" without feeling guilty. Sometimes ago, we posted an article on "saying NO" on our page www.facebook.com/tyobstacle My people, you shouldn't bother yourself about, "what would they say?", "how would they feel?", etc before we make decisions. If these factors still determine if your response would be a YES or NO, then, you still have a long way to go. So, before you're 30 years old, you should be able to say "NO" without feeling guilty.

******LEARN HOW TO CONQUER PROCASTINATION******

This has to deal with the concept of time management and this is what many people find it hard to learn, even in their late 30s. As a man/husband or woman/wife, before you clock 30, you must have conquered procrastination. A quote says, "procrastination is a thief of time", but I'll quote someone who says, "procrastination is a lazy man's apology".

Number 11

******YOU MUST HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT******

A man who is thinking of having a family of his own must stop living from hand to mouth and the best way to do this is to have a bank account. Having 1 bank account is for an ordinary person, but as for an extra-ordinary person, before you are 30 years old, you must have more than 1 bank account with different aims. "my future family account", "my business account", "my personal account", etc. Even as a lady, when a guy comes to ask you out and he sees how your financial life is in order, he'll respect you and as a guy too, a lady who comes into your life and sees such orderliness won't take you for granted. So, before you clock 30, you must have atleast 1 bank account.

Number 12

*****HAVE AN INVESTMENT*****

As a serious and future-minded person, before you clock 30, you must have an investment. Something that is like a plant which would yield returns for you in years to come. No matter how small it might be, an investment is an investment. It could be shares or anything. This would serve as a plan "B" or as a "fall-back-plan" for you, incase your plan "A" fails. So, here's wisdom for those who know it and who appreciate it. Whatever you are doing now, before you clock 30, have an investment.

***** HAVE A STABLE CHARACTER AND UNDERSTAND YOURSELF*****

Even a guy of 20 is expected to be known for having 50% stability of character and attitude, let alone, a 30 years old man. Some of us are so inconsistent in our attitudes and characters that people can't really identify a particular trait with us. Of a true, no human can attain 100% stability of character and attitude, but 80% is not too bad for a man/woman of integrity. So, before you are 30 years old, learn to always say and do what you mean and mean what you say and do.

*****BE ABLE TO CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS YOURSELF*****

This is one area I would have loved to emphasize on, but I'll prefer to use an anecdote to illustrate my point. Imagine with me an eagle who shares company with chickens. Or a lion who dwells in the mist of the sheep. One would not need a soothesayer to tell us what the fate of the eagle and the lion would be. Before you are 30, you should be able to choose your friends. Having known where you are heading to in life, make friends with people who would contribute to the progress of your life's journey. Hence, your lion would eat grass with the sheep, while your eagle would never fly at it's peak.

******LEARN TABLE MANNER AND ETIQUETTE******

I remember so well when I was invited to a dinner so years back. I knew close to nothing about table manner and etiquette and it took only the grace of God to survive that event without much embarrassment. I'm sure some people would be of the opinion that this point is not so important but, all I'll say to such persons is to wait till their gifts lead them to dine with kings and queens, then and there they would understand what I mean because some of the important things of life are hidden in small and little things we don't take note of. So, before you are 30 years old, you must have learnt and familarize yourself with several table manner and etiquette.
