The bed was not as soft as the pillow, as you could feel your head buried in the pillow. You tried to move your head, but you felt your head was held back by the two sides of the pillow. You tried to raise your right hand, and you felt a strong string hold you back. Your left hand felt the same with the similar string holding you back. You tried to lift your legs, but it felt as if two strong chains held your legs on the two sides. Opening your eyes was another tedious thing for you to do, as your eyelids were heavier than a new born baby. After much efforts, your eyelids accepted your offer, and it gave you a brief glance at things. The white ceiling was the first sight you beheld. The whiteness of the ceiling and the white flouriscent bulbs were blinding enough, and like a brave coward, your eyelids retreated to their domains like a coy mistress before her concubine. You made another brave attempt to conquer the blinding ceiling and lights, and your second attempt earned you an unprecedented victory. You gazed more at the lights and ceiling like a predator examining its victim, and like a warrior celebrating his victory. Your victory was short-lived when you heard strange voices that tend to speak "familiar matters of today". You were not sure if the voices had been there all the time you were conquering the ceiling and the lights, but, you gave them your ears as if that was the best offering you had. "Doctor, there should be something you can do for my son" One of the voices said in a very confident tone. You had no problem with the tone, compared to the confidence in the tone, and compared to the words, "my son". You knew your father could not have come anyway close to you, if at all he was still alive, let alone, refer to you as his son. "We are trying our best" The other voice said. "The accident caused a very serious damage in his brain, and that is why he is in this state of insanity" The voice added. "Insanity?" The words land-crashed in your heart. "I understand" The first voice said. "Just try your best. I don't want to loose him too" The voice added. "and you know I have already lost his sister in the accident" The voice said again, after some seconds. Like a bad pilot, the words were landing unfairly without even passing through the runway of your heart. You have heard so much that it would take a lifetime for you to chew. Just at that moment, some portions of the past events rushed to your mind. You remembered the accident that landed you and Christy into a ditch, and how you struggled to escape from the car. You also remembered crawling about 200 metres away from the ditch before you remembered that Christy might need your help. Like a hero, you crawled back to the accident scene, only to faint right there. In the moment of your reverie, your remembered what led to the struggle between you and Christy - the bag of golds. "Where was it?" You asked yourself. You remembered holding on to it when you crawled away from the accident scene. But, as you tried to remember what you did with it, a part of your head hurt. You tried to go over the whole story in your head again, but your head hurt the more when you tried to remember the bag of golds. The more you tried, the more your head hurt. "I'm sure it was with me when I crawled back to the accident scene" You consoled yourself. "Whosoever brought me here must have taken the bag of golds" You concluded. "Please, kindly excuse me. I have other patients to attend to" One of the voices said, interrupting your thoughts. You heard footsteps depart from the room, while at the same time, footsteps came closer to you. You wanted to open your eyes, but you felt it would be a bad idea. So, you decided to concede defeat to the ceiling and lights, maybe to conquer them some other time. The footsteps drew closer and you felt a side of the bed gradually sinking like Titanic. You were scared at first. You wanted to open your eyes, to show the ceiling and the lights your prowess. To show them you could defeat them flawlessly, and to also see what was sinking the bed. In a jiffy, it occurred to you that the bed sank because someone sat on it. You tried to calm down, and not show your fears. "My daughter is gone, but my golds can not go" A voice whispered into your ears with every sense of threat possible.

I know a lot of you would be wondering why it takes me days to post the next episode of the story lately. There are two things involved. Just as I've always done, I type each episode few minutes before sending it out. Meaning, I don't have the whole episodes already typed on my phone. The second reason is that, I've got more engaged and busy (work-wise) lately, and if not for my determination, I would have suspended Daily Diet for some months. So, I would plead with you all. It's not a deliberate act to bring the episodes in a scanty manner. It is due to situations beyond my control. I also want to use this opportunity to appreciate you all for voting for me in the Nigeria Writer's Award. Some even took the voting process like a core course as they voted for me greatly and daily. I am honoured. The winner would be declared January, 2017, and I promise to carry you along on how it goes. As for the next episode, I will surely bring it to your doorstep as usual. Thanks for your understanding.
