The Concept of Change

"THE CONCEPT OF CHANGE"

By

Austus Ofmat Nwanne {Mr. Tackle}

The definition of change is no longer a stranger to many of us. So also, the adage that says, "the only thing constant in life is change" and for the few fellows who do not know what change is, I'm so sure they must have experienced change at one point or the other in their life and for those who believe they've not for once experienced change in their life, I have no word for them...

I am not here to tell you if change is good neither am I here to tell you that change is bad. But, I'm here to draw your attention to some areas of change that many of us are not aware of or have neglected due to reasons unknown to me. Before I unleash what I have in my sleeves, I'll want us to know that we are centralizing our discussion on "personal change" with the quote,

"To change your society, you have to change yourself first".

At that, we'll look at some steps to change:

1. Knowledge
2. Desire
3. Skills
4. Optimism
5. Creativity
6. Effectiveness

Honestly, many people prefer to change others rather than change themselves because they've forgotten that it is easier to change one self than to change another man. All the steps listed above are important to change oneself.

Having said all these, it is good we clear any form of doubt concerning the above concept and at that, the floor is open to comments that stand FOR or AGAINST this concept.

****Here are some people's reactions and comments

Sam Adejumobi> I support bcos it is only person that is faithful to him/herself can be faithful to others, that's to say let's change ourself so as to change others through our attitude, character, behavioural pattern and other principles listed by Mr. Tackle.....

Tackle Your Obstacle> @Sam,
Well, you are seeing it from your own personal perspective. What do you think of those who still strongly believe that others should change instead of they themselves changing?

Sam Adejumobi> In that case, it is by putting blame on others as a result of seeing themselves to be perfect.
Of which, instead of putting others in their place, we should put ourself in their place.

Qawiy Temitope> hmmm....

Miranda Ogboru >One needs to only look @ d mirror and start d change process frm there.

Tackle Your Obstacle >@Miranda,
could you please elaborate on what you mean by "look at the mirror".

Miranda Ogboru> When u look at d mirror, d person u c there is u. That is just where change shld bgin... D fingers that point at u when u point a finger at ur neighbor! Q.E.D

Tackle Your Obstacle> @miranda,
You sure have a good point and I support your claim. But, don't you think the problem we have is people looking at the mirror cos they prefer to bring people to stand before a mirror than they themselves standing before it?

Moses Opara> True

Tackle Your Obstacle> @miranda,
You sure have a good point and I support your claim. But, don't you think the problem we have is people looking at the mirror cos they prefer to bring people to stand before a mirror than they themselves standing before it

Miranda Ogboru> it wld then be a matter of fooling one's self. dat wld b living in denial... u loose d justification to complain!

Tackle Your Obstacle> @miranda,
honestly, you seem to be seeing it clearly but am sure they are not seeing it the way you are. What then do you think we can do to help these individuals who believe in changing people rather than changing themselves?

Kukogho Iruesiri Samson > Way to go bro...I think ma'amMiranda or some one else mentioned this in her poem..

Tackle Your Obstacle> I just came across this excerpt from yesterday's Vanguard

"...It is difficult to change a human being especially if the person is reluctant to change..."

What do we think of this in relation to our subject of discussion?
