Winny himself knew that his end had come. The window was locked, and the hole which served as their entrance and exit was also blocked. Ordinarily, Winny would have thought of the best way to go about the situation he found himself, but the condition of his wife in labour, and the pressure of getting the grains home for his wife affected his judgement. As he looked up in despair, he saw a little hole at the ceiling. He was out of options, and for that, he had to go for the hole, but the distance from the kitchen table to the ceiling was much, and he was not sure if he could jump for it at one attempt.
The cat was approaching with total confidence, and with full speed, Winny ran towards the table, and made the jump towards the ceiling, but he missed by just few inches, and his fall from the ceiling can be said to be the great fall. A fall, great enough to kill him right on the spot. The cat moved towards Winny, and it was obvious he had defeated Winny flawlessly.
Winny's wife was in great labour pain, and her loud shout was enough to attract their neighbours who came around to help her with the delivery.
After the delivery, all the rats waited for Winny to break the goodnews to him, and their wait went for hours without his return. Later, each of the rats started going home, and it was just a matter of time before the young mother was left all alone with her new born baby. The following morning, Winny’s corpse was found close to the refuse dump behind the house.
In a jiffy, Little Tiny’s mind went through the memorable story of how his father died while on the same mission to Mr. Williams’ house on the very day he was given birth to. He would not have gone to Mr Williams' house, if not for the fact that his mum was down with sickness, and his step-father had travelled with his step-siblings to visit their paternal grand-parents who live some streets away. Little Tiny would have tried to send words across to his step-father about his mum’s sudden illness. But, there was no way he could do that, coupled with the fact that no rat was going that way during the period, and it would be so unwise of him to leave his sick mother all alone at home and travel such a long distance in other to call his step-father.
As Little Tiny was gathering courage to go to the house, he could feel the ground shaking under him. From afar, he saw a very big machine coming towards him, and he knew for sure that it was a ploughing machine.
"Why did Mr Williams decided to plough his field now?" Little Tiny wondered.
The plough was moving closer to him, and it was clear that if the plough should go too far, it would destroy their home, and not only would it destroy their home, the plough would kill his mother back at home. Just as his father, Little Tiny was also out of options. He was not sure of what next to do. Either to hurry to Mr. Williams’ house to pick the drug he was told could cure his mother’s illness, or to run back home to save his mother from the fast approaching ploughing machine.
"I think I should get the drugs first." He told himself.
Although, he didn't doubt the effectiveness of the drugs because Mr. Williams is a vet doctor.
"Once your mum uses the drug, she would be back on her feet in no time" The words of his friend who recommended the drug for him crossed his mind.
Little Tiny was hoping he would get the drug in Mr. Williams’ house, but one thing he was very sure of was the fact that he might not meet his mother alive if he goes for the drug first.
“I have to move mum away from the house.” He said to himself.
Meanwhile, the noise of the ploughing machine had attracted all the cats and dogs outside, and they all stood at the balcony, watching the ploughing machine. No doubt, such a situation was very dangerous for a single rat, not to talk of a rat carrying another rat. Little Tiny was running out of options as the ploughing machine drew closer to him.
