"What do you mean Baba?" Amope asked, a little impatient. Peter, Paul and Jenny all raised an eyebrow against what Baba just said. "Ask your mother, she should know better" Baba said, facing the children. "I don't know anything." Amope fired back. "All I know is that I gave birth to a set of triplet, and one of them died before she could even clock a year." Amope said, not minding the impact the sudden news would have on the twins. Peter and Paul looked at Amope like a total stranger they are meeting for the first time. The news did not have a good impact on them at all, because they found it so hard to believe what their mother just said. "So, mummy, you mean we were triplet?" Paul struggled to ask. Amope could not talk anymore, she simply nodded to Paul's question. "But why" Peter asked, feeling sober and weak. "Why didn't you tell us all this while." Peter added. Amope felt so sorry for not telling the boys when she had the opportunity to. That very moment she had to let the cat out of the bag was not good at all. "I'm sorry." Amope apologized. "It was your father's idea, and I could not bring myself to tell you after your father's death." She added. "Paulina died few months after I gave birth to the 3 of you." Amope said. If Amope was crazy, she knew for sure what she did, when she did, and how she did. She saw her husband dig a small pit behind their house, and Paulina was unceremoniously buried. She watched the whole scene, even though Akorede kicked against it. "Just let me watch her go" She insisted when she was told to stay indoors. Akorede later agreed that she can watch, but from the balcony. "I watched my husband bury her" Amope thundered, with all certainty.
"The Oracle does not lie" Baba insisted. "What did my father tell you when you told him about the death of your daughter then? Baba asked, facing Amope. Amope raised her head, trying to remember what she was told. "Hmmmmm…… He said…my child is not dead." Amope said, remembering what Baba said. It was at the point of remembrance that what Baba told her then began to make sense to her. The agony in her heart didn't allow her make any good thing out of Baba's words at all. "I told you. The Oracle does not lie" The young Baba said again. Amope knew she should not argue with the Oracle, and she was not ready to. But, as for Paulina, she was very certain that she saw her husband carefully place the young girl in the ground like a farmer trying to plant a tuber of yam. At that point, the twins were getting tired and fed up of the entire drama. "What has the late Baba got to do with us?" Paul asked, neglecting the issue of Jenny being her blood sister. "Didn't your mother tell you?" Baba asked, facing Amope. At that point, the boys gave Amope a you-better-start-talking look, and Amope did not prolong things as well. "I was so eager to get a child" Amope started. "And when I came to Baba, he said I was destined to give birth 2 years after the time I came to him. He advised me to be patient. But, out of eagerness, I told him to help me hasten the children." Amope explained with tears flowing down her cheeks. "Baba said I was destined to have a set of triplet, and if I wait, I would save myself a lot of trouble. But, I refused to wait." Amope wiped the tears on her cheeks with the back of her hands. "Baba told me that I would have to perform 3 sacrifices to permanent my fate and yours if I choose to bring you to this world earlier than destined. The first sacrifice was conducted before your birth. The second sacrifice was conducted few weeks after your birth." Amope went mute. "What of the third sacrifice?" Peter asked, with a high sense of anger in his voice. "The third sacrifice is to be conducted before your 25th birthday." Baba said, taking the words from Amope's mouth. "But, the sexual intercourse between you and your sister…" Baba paused for a while for them to digest the truth. "The sexual intercourse has brought about a looming danger on all of you." Baba said. "You have not more than seven days to carry out the sacrifice." Baba said. "No problem Baba. We would do it."Amope assured. "omode o'mogun, o'un pe le fo (a child who doesn't know herbs, and calls it mere vegetable)" Baba said, smiling. "The sacrifice has changed from what it was before. It is now a matter of life and death, and the sacrifice of taking fruits to a 3 junction-road would not solve it anymore." Baba said. Amope was surprised because she knew the great level of courage she used to take the first two sacrifices to a 3 junction-road in the middle of the night. Jenny was quiet and still. The shocking information concerning her maternity was a big nut for her to crack, but she planned to figure a way to ask her parents about it. But, for her life, she needed to save it first. "Baba, what is the way out?" Jenny asked. "Before sunsets 7 days from now, each of you would have joined your ancestors except…" Baba said, pausing longer than necessary. "Except what?" Amope acted mature to ask. "Except each of you spend a night each in a cemetery before the next 7 days to chase away the spirit of death over your head" Baba dropped yet another bombshell.

Should I tell you the story is just beginning? I think there is no need for me to tell you that, because you already know that already. But, to what extent can you go if you were told when you would die? How far can you go to make sure you don't die? Amope, Peter, Paul and Jenny just received their death sentence, and the only way out is if each of them spends a night each in a cemetery. Meaning, one day, one person. What would become of them? Don't also forget that we are yet to sort out the issue about if Jenny is truly Amope's daughter. Just wait for me. I'll bring the next episode to your doorstep as usual. The story remains, THREE IS A CROWD.
